NoneView of a laneway in pen. Black and white. The laneway begins lower centre of image and recedes into image, halting 1/3 into the image. It is flanked by a high wooden fence on the right and a low wooden pole fence on the left. Behind fence on the right is the top of the wall and the roof of a house. One the left there is a house on a slight hill, rising above the road. There are houses in the background, with power poles and antennae visible above the roof lines. Mounted in black matt. This laneway which ran between Bamford's Timber Yard on the corner of Warrandyte Rd and Maroondah Hwy became Civic Place. Two storey building is Renong Chambers. Bottom left shows Jack Orr's clothes hoists. Bottom right is Horman & Woolhouse plumbers. This area was demolished in 1965.Typed below photograph, "Former Ringwood Mail office, Adelaide Street, 1955". Catalogue card reads, "Adelaide St. looking along laneway to west showing former "Mail" office and Billiards Pool to left, 1955." Written on backing sheet of one copy, "Lane between Bamford's Timber Yard, corner Warrandyte Rd. and Maroondah Highway. House demolished 1965. 'Ringwood Mail' office at end of lane in Adelaide St." Another copy's backing sheet reads, "Mail Office. Lane went to Melbourne St. Ham's Billiard Saloon, Renong Chambers (2 storey) bot. left Jack Orr's clothes hoists. Bot. right Horman & Woolhouse plumbers." Another copy reads, "This laneway became Civic Place."

Colour slide of legatees unloading wood from a semi trailer in a Melbourne laneway. It was during Operation Firewood. Legatees would organise collection of wood from the country and distribute it to widows in metropolitan Melbourne. Other slides show the cutting and loading of wood and delivery to widows in metropolitan Melbourne. Was with many other slides taken in the 1950s and 1960s. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. In many cases the original images were not well focussed and the digital image the best available.A record of Legacy helping widows by sourcing, supplying and delivering firewood. The North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) is one of the major delivery alliances within Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP). Formed as a long‑term partnership, the alliance is responsible for removing dangerous level crossings, constructing new stations, upgrading rail infrastructure, and delivering precinct improvements across Melbourne’s north‑west. A portion of the NWPA team is currently based at the former Sunshine Ten Pin Bowling Alley, located at 505 Ballarat Road, Sunshine. From this site they have established the NWPA Walking Group, which undertakes weekly walks through Sunshine. These walks have been hosted by Alan Dash of the Sunshine and District History Society, who has been sharing detailed insights into the history of Sunshine and its surrounding neighbourhoods.
