Lead kindly light. .01 - solid wooden chair with peaked/pointed shaped back. ...Chair donated to Melbourne City Mission (probably in 1941) by Mrs RODDA of Williamstown and used at the Port Branch (Jubilee Hall) until its closure . From the 1950s it was used by Sister Norma BARNETT, who kept it until her death. It then went to her 'sister' Janne RAY, and on her death to Janne's daughter Tracey RAY. She donated this plus related items to PMHPS in 2017 (refer 1506 and 3906).01 - solid wooden chair with peaked/pointed shaped back. Arms have rounded ends. Upright section of chair has two indented pieces and a small 4 leaf shape under the top of the point with a small brass plaque attached under it. .02 - Cushion - velourOn plaque "Presented to the Port Melbourne Branch of the Melbourne City Mission in loving memory of my husband N.P.Rodda. Bill Stratton with butchers basket Paddy Todd with double bass horn Diddy Powell with tenor horn\ Jack Simper with cornet Mr Trengrove drum major Jimmy Suttie cornet George Bennett tenor horn W Todd bandmaster and cornet George Preston euphonium onlookers Gordon Bennett, Norman Nelson, Possum Dawe. As the boys were all in dark suits I think the occasion would have been at [Ernie] Ching's funeral. He died with Peron [peritonitis]. He was 21 and a good bandsman. The band played 'Lead kindly light, The Dead March from Saul, very Sad' ". Note: - This information was once written on a piece of paper attached to the photograph. This slip of paper is no longer affixed to back of photograph. There is a copy of this photograph in the Todd family file, with some names listed. If this photograph was taken on the day of Ernie Ching's funeral, it dates the photograph to 1908.
