This is a collection of sixteen tourist guides dating from the mid 1970's to 2013. These contain listings of businesses, accommodation, eateries and events in Warrnambool and district. They also include maps of Warrnambool and surrounds, advertising and photographs of various attractions. While mainly covering Warrnambool a small number of the guides cover the South West Region. These directories have mainly been published by the Warrnambool City Council and are a selection of the types of information provided to visitors at the Tourist information centre during this time period.These tourist guides give snapshots of the City of Warrnambool for the years covered and will be useful for research.[.1] An 8 page paper booklet with black printing and a black & white photo of the pond at the Botanical Gardens on the front cover. The remainder are black and white photographs. The front cover is purple with white writing in the lower third. There is an outline of the coast and five colour photographs of district attractions. The inside middle page has a map of the Western wonderland region. The content covers towns in this area. Content relating to Warrnambool is in the last six pages. Bogong State School was awarded First Prize in its Class for 'the Project Book'. The school received a cheque for the purchase of library books or approved equipment.Bogong is a town established by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The Ballarat Junior Technical School Pine plantation was a 32 acre sight at Nerrina wehre several thousands of pine trees were planted over three years. Mullawullah died on 23 September 1896. His funeral on 26 September attracted a large crown. Richard Squire was a student at the Ballarat School of Mines In 1905 Richard Squire was manager of the West Berry Consols at Allendale, and developed an improved system of mine ventilation, which was supported in "The Age." He was successful in combating and remedying the gas and ventilation troubles of the Deep Mines of Creswick and Allendale Districts after all had failed. MINE MANAGERS’ ASSOCIATION. Squire, manager of the West Berry Consols, at Allendale, submitted a paper detailing what he had done tor the betterment of ventilation in the alluvial mines of Smeaton and Mary borough districts- Members gave Mr Squire every credit for the results that he claimed to have effected; the adoption of his ideas had testified to their value to mine-owners. It was painted out, however, that for want of a thorough debate of the subject with experienced men the author had unwittingly included some general statements that required modifying in some points and extending in others, in justice to other workers among the earlier and the present day managers of mines. Mary Fogarty was a student at the School of Mines in the 1920s. She was a member of the Hockey team that was part of the Ballarat Hockey Association Competition. She studied Arts and Crafts and became a teacher at the SMB Technical Arts School. In 1945 she was in charge of the Girls' Preparatory Classes - Years 7 and 8. In 1950 she was asked to start the Technical School for Girls. !951 saw 30 Form 1 students in the ground floor of the old SMB Secondary School (E J Tippett Library/former Gaol Governor's residence). She had an assistant. 1952 saw another 30 students enrolled and two more staff. As the school grew they were given space in the Art School. Houses along Grant Street were bought with the intention of building a three storey building. Emily Ann Hanson Stitfold was born in Ballarat in 1866 to Thomas Stitfold and Sarah Stitfold (Hanson). There were six children, one boy and five girls. Emily attended photography classes at Ballarat School of Mines in 1896 (Grade !) and 1898. Photography was a new course offered and she was one of the first students to attend. She became a member of the Ballarat Amateur Photographic Association. Emily died in 1948 and is buried in the Ballarat Old Cemetery. (BN Section 19 Grave 9). The E.J. Tippett Library is named after the late E.J. Tippett who was a long time President of the Ballarat School of Mines Council, and library advocate. In February 1985, the first sod for the new SMB Campus building was turned by the Minister for Planning and the Environment, the Hon. Evan Walker, M.P. The overall responsibility for the building rested with the Public Works Department in association with the SMB Campus architect, Ewan Jones & Associates and the builder, S. J. Weir Pty. Ltd. They put together the facility that is both functional and of a style that merges with the surrounding architecture. The new building was opened on 04 July 1986 by Governor of Victoria, His Excellency Dr Davis McCaughey.E.J.
