Set of five postcards published by the limbless soldiers association, N.S.W. The postcards feature various photographs of the ANZAC memorial, Sydney, N.S.W. The photographs are in sepia tones with each having a description printed beneath the photograph.All the postcards are printed with the following inscription; "POST CARD", "THIS SIDE TO BE USED FOR CORRESPONDENCE ONLY" and the FOOT note "PUBLISHED BY THE LIMBLESS SOLDIERS ASSOCIATION, N.S.W. The motor vessel "Kanimbla" from Mcllwraith, McEacharn Ltd was brand new in 1936 and was used several times for charity balls. "Kanimbla Ball" (Australasian (Melbourne, Vic. : 1864 - 1946), Saturday 28 November 1936, page 12) Over 1,000 people were present at a very successful ball given on board the m.v. Kanimbla this week, to aid the funds of the Limbless Soldiers' Association and the Victorian Mission to Seamen. The ship was gaily decorated with balloons and international code flags, while vases of mixed flowers gave charm to the supper tables in dining saloon. His Excel- lency the Governor and Lady Huntingfield attended by Lieutenant A. W. P. Robert-son, were present, and were received by the chairman of the ball committee (Major-General Brand) and Mrs. Brand, Admiral Sir Francis and Lady Hyde, Com- mander and Mrs. Smith, the chaplain of the mission (the Rev. F. L. Oliver), Mr. and Mrs. James Kelso, the president of the Limbless Soldiers' Association (Mr. T. S. Gray) and Mrs. Gray, and the honorary secretary of the ball committee (Mr. C. R. Laragby) and Mrs. Laraghy. Members of the Board of Management in 1938 included Syd Birrell, Carl Carleton, Jack Barnes, Os Gawler, H Nicholson, W(Bill) Pearce, Lionel Wallace, Brian Armstrong, Eric Harding, Doug McKinlay. Text below the photo shows it was presented to J G Gillespie to commemorate his year as president, which was 1938. Another copy of this photo exists that is labelled as Board of Management 1949 - which is incorrect. Legatee Eric Harding OBE, MM, was also a member of the Limbless Soldiers' Association of Victoria as he lost a leg as a gunner in France in WW1. He served with the Australian Field Artillery in the original Anzac Corps. Despite loosing a leg he was active enough to ride with a Light Horse Party at the head of Melbourne's 1975 Anzac Day march. The letter from Eric Harding to Legacy President Ron Foskett in 1978 was in response to a call for information and photos for the archive that was being compiled. Legatees Frank Doolan and Brian Armstrong were making an attempt to collect items relevant to Legacy's history for an official archive project The letter suggests L/- Eric Harding provided a photo in which Cyril Smith, Dudley Treagent and others appear but that photo was not with the letter. It also referenced the photo that appears here, with of a group of people at a weekend party at Ocean Grove. No names are identified but it must have been a Legacy event for it to be sent to the archive project. It could be Legatees and their wives and children socialising together at a weekend event in Ocean Grove. Red cloth covered bound book, 116 pages, plus printed end sheets used in covers, titled "MMTB Electric Tramways and Motor Omnibuses Sections and Fares", dated August 1971. Book consists of four sections, bound with sewn cloth binding on the outside with glued white paper end covers. Details the various section stages and fares for each tram and bus route, General instructions, concession fares and has photos or drawings of the various special tickets, eg passes or prepaid tickets. Green cloth, covered heavy cardboard both sides ticket or pass, titled "Tramway Pass - 1953-54" for limbless and disabled soldiers, issued by the MMTB with MMTB logo on the rear. Ticket printed with paper sheets glued to the cloth on the inside and a photo of the person issued to glued to the right hand side. Issued to John Cameron of 82 Victoria St Carlton, signed by the Secretary (Mr Warner). Note date of pass is 1-10-53, though it appears to be issued in 1955. Available to 30-6-1954. Has a photo of Mr. Cameron. Advised Mr. Cameron had lost a leg during the war. Note - not available on all night services.
