The name "Analecta" refers to a collection of short literary pieces, however the students who put the Analecta together in 1964 defined it as meaning crumbs or gleanings. Their hope was to 'bring to its readers something of what happens at Luther College day by day, year by year'. A Luther College Year 10 essay which researches the history of George Maxwell Walker (1924 - 1944). A pilot with the R.A.A.F. who spent much of his flying days with the British R.A.F. At the time of his death his squadron was carrying out anti-submarine patrols and internal security in and around the Middle East. He was the son of George Walker and grandson of Edgar and Myra Walker, owners of Australia Tesselated Tile Company. The George Walker family lived in Harrison St, Mitcham. Caption: Battle of the minds Luther College's Martin Hoffmann and Tintern's Cassie McGannon were members of the winning team in the Tournament of the Minds Text (from Windows CO-Pilot) TWO local schools boast some of Melbourne’s best lateral thinkers following the Tournament of the Minds. Tintern Anglican Girls Grammar School won the tournament’s regional finals and will advance to the state finals in October. The team’s mission was to design a board game using limited materials. Armed with only four batteries, wires, foil, buzzers, torch globes, magnets, nails, wood, elastic bands and plastic containers the team went to work. Students Cassie McGannon, Margaret Steel, Kristen Borland, Mercia Howard, Heather Shortage, Kristen Palmer and Caitlin Gardiner spent six weeks working on the maths and engineering challenge. Luther College’s team members Martin Hoffmann, Jemma McEwen, Belinda Lee, Chris Sanzaro, Tim Syratt, Todd Webber and Kylie Smith came second. The winning teams from all categories will meet again on October 8 at Monash University to compete in the state trials before going on to the national trials in Adelaide later this year.

From the mid-1860s families of German ancestry arrived in the Wodonga district, travelling in groups from South Australia. The majority of these people were of the Lutheran religion. At first there was no Lutheran pastor or church in the area and they held services under the gum trees or in their homes once they had been built. The early arrivals included the Haeusler, Klinge, Bartel, Rothe and Paech families. They were later joined by members of the Muller, Lange, Pumpa, Lobbe, Heckendorf, Zeinert, Schubert, Schuster, Schubert and Terlich families amongst others. The first Lutheran Church was built in Havelock Street, Wodonga and was dedicated in 1875. This building was used for approximately 90 years until it was demolished and replaced by a temporary building and then a second church which was dedicated in 1978. The Ovens and Murray Advertiser on 4th August 1874 reported "The Rev. Goessling pastor of the German Lutheran Church, Gerogery has laid the foundation stone of the new church for the members of his denomination residing at Wodonga, in accordance with the rights of the church. The building was to be 30 feet by 20 feet and 14 feet high, of brick with white facings and Gothic windows. There was to be a porch and vestry, one at either end, measuring 8 feet by 10 feet". Plans were initiated to build a new church from the late 1990s. After many years of planning and hard work, the last service in the Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Havelock Street was held on Sunday 7th May 2023 and a new Church was constructed. From 14th May 2023 the Parish held its worship services in Luther Hall at Victory Lutheran College in Drage Road, West Wodonga. The new Saint John’s Church was consecrated on 18 August 2024.This photo is significant because it depicts the original Lutheran Church in Wodonga. E Gordon Rupp, 1910-1986, was one of the leading historians of his generation, specialising in the Protestant Reformation (particularly Luther) and eighteenth-century England. After a degree in history at King’s College, London he prepared for ministry at Wesley House from 1933 to 1937. After further study in Strasbourg and Basel and a period of circuit ministry he taught at Richmond College from 1947 to 1952, when he became a lecturer in Divinity at Cambridge University, taking his Doctorate in Divinity in 1955. In 1956 he became the first Professor of Ecclesiastical History at Manchester University before moving to Wesley House as Principal in 1967. The following year he combined that appointment with the Dixie Professorship of Ecclesiastical History at Cambridge and a Fellowship at Emmanuel College. He retired from Wesley House in 1974 and from the Professorship three years later. He published extensively and was an active ecumenist, one of the founders of the Cambridge Theological Federation, a member of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches and an official Observer at the Second Vatican Council.
