Mary Russell brought household items to Australia from England in 1934. Her mother, Elizabeth Russell used the writing desk that was originally given to her mother, Agnes Marian Byrne when she went to boarding school. Agnes used it all her life. Desk damaged by a visiting child who forced the desk closed/open at one point. Estimated that Agnes went to school about 1830'sA square wooden box with brass inlay decoration on lid and front around lock. Hinged lid opens to be a writing surface of velvet. At lock end, groove for pens and small well for ink bottle. Key (not to be used) is in the ink well. Base lined with green hessian glued on. Lid and base angled to give sloping writing surface. Small envelope which contained three original photos and three postcards, donated to the society by founding member Helen Gibson c.1993. Envelope is pre-paid from the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria, Inc. Handwritten on it are 1. 'X10', written by Marian Matta while organising photos for cataloguing; 2. 'for Helen Gibson', presumably written by Gwen Thomas'; and 3. 'From Gwen Thomas – originally from Miss Field. Gwen also has a set of School Magazines – 1928. Any historical value?', written by Helen Gibson.

This photograph was sent by May (Marian) Hyatt, née Nicholls, to her brother and sister-in-law Edgar and Ethel Nicholls. May's note on the back of the photo identifies the children as "Ida" (Ida Hyatt, May's daughter) and "Mollie Norris". It also identifies a "Mr Greig", probably William Michael Grigg, who lived near the Hyatt family on Geelong Road, Linton. (Mollie Norris, a daughter of Lilian Violet ('Cis') Grigg and her husband Gerald Norris, was W.M. In the late 1990s, Arthritis Victoria undertook a Rural Access Pilot Project over a period of two years. In 1999, during the final phase of the project, a Rural Health Week Conference was held in Bendigo. In this photo, a small group of people pose for a photo at the event.
