... Sunshine Plaza / Market Place Development......Sunshine Market Place...Archive Sunshine Plaza / Market Place Development ...The former Massey Ferguson site became a contentious issue for the City of Sunshine from the mid 1980's. The Council had acquired the land from Massey Ferguson and were considering developing the land into a large shopping complex. After complex discussions between developers, the site owners, councillors, consultants, legal advice and with the Victorian Government, the Council was forced to sell the site to private developers. The Victorian State Government stepped in and prevented the City of Sunshine in becoming the developers of the site due to the possible exposure to large amounts of financial debts. In the end, Sunshine ended up with two distinct shopping complexes, the Sunshine Plaza on the east side of Hampshire Road, which is also on former Massey Ferguson land, and the Sunshine Market Place, on the west side of Hampshire Road, the large site of the former Massey Ferguson manufacturing site. Both sites are now privately owned.5691.01 - Sunshine Plaza Development - Decision Soon On Sunshine Shops.jpg 5691.02 - Sunshine Plaza Development - Advice.jpg 5691.03 - Sunshine Plaza Development - Council May Become A Developer.jpg 5691.04 - Sunshine Plaza Development - Judge To Rule On Shop Site.jpg 5691.05 - Sunshine Plaza Development - Outspoken Plaza Boss To Stand For Council.jpg 5691.06 - Sunshine Plaza Development - Gwen Goedecke Letter Of Concerns 1989 Back.jpg 5691.06 - Sunshine Plaza Development - Gwen Goedecke Letter Of Concerns 1989 Front.jpg sunshine plaza, city of sunshine, george herscue, massey ferguson, sunshine market place, gwen goedecke -

Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum and VillageInstrument - Octant, mid 1800's
... 16 Market Place, Hull, South Shields, England, UK ...An Octant is a doubly reflecting navigation instrument used primarily by sailors to measure the angular distance between two visible objects and was a forerunner of the sextant. The name comes from the Latin octo, or "one-eighth of a circle," for the Octan'ts arc which spans 45°, or one-eighth of a circle. The primary use of an Octant is to measure the angle between an astronomical object and the horizon for celestial navigation. The estimation of this angle, is known as sighting or shooting the object, or taking a sight. The angle, and the time when it was measured, can be used to calculate a position line on a nautical chart (latitude), for example, sighting the Sun at noon or Polaris at night (in the Northern Hemisphere) gives an angle by which the latitude can then be estimated. Sighting the height of a landmark on land can also give a measure of distance. This fine octant once belonged to Captain Farquhar Chisholm and was donated by his granddaughter, Margaret Ruth Greer (nee Chisholm, born 1914). The label inside the Octant's box reads “Thomas L. Ainsley, Instrument Maker … etc”. Farquhar Chisholm was born in 1832 in Inverness, Scotland. He regularly sailed on perilous voyages between Quebec, Canada and the Baltic ports of Europe. In 1854 he migrated to Australia during the Gold Rush, to a place called Fiery Creek (near Beaufort Victoria) where he was fairly successful in his quest for gold. In the years of the Great Gold Rush, it was said that there were over 40,000 diggers in the goldfields of the Beaufort area! In 1857 having made sufficient money, he hired another crew and returned to Clachnacuddin, Inverness shire, Scotland and in that same year, he studied and obtained his Master Mariner Certificate (which would have included the use of an octant for navigation). He was appointed to Mr George (or James) Walker, as commander of his sailing ship, the 3-masted ELIZABETH, built 1859 and known as “The Walker barque”. In 1870 he married, then in 1887 returned to Australia with his wife and children (Kenneth Chisholm (1871), Mary Bremner Chisholm (1873), Margaret Hood Chisholm (1874), Farquhar Chisholm (1878)). They arrived in Port Melbourne, Victoria and sadly, only six weeks after landing, his wife Caroline passed away (in Geelong,1888). In 1900 Capt. Chisholm lived in Camperdown (Victoria) and not long after this his daughter Margaret died of consumption. In his later years, he went to live in the manse of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Wangaratta, with his son, Rev. Farquhar Chisholm. He died there on Sat, 23rd March 1912, 80 years old. He was known as “… quiet, unobtrusive and competent, respected by all with whom he came in contact”. Some other members of Captain Chisholm’s family are; his older son Kenneth Chisholm, who was a contractor in Camperdown; a nephew Donald Macintosh (of 23 Douglas Row, Inverness); a grandson Brian Jones (son of Caroline Belle-Jones nee Chisholm, who lived in Camperdown in the earlier part of her life). The octant, the forerunner of the sextant, was a significant step in providing accuracy of a sailors latitude position at sea & his vessels distance from land when taking sightings of land-based landmarks.Octant, once belonging to Captain Farquhar Chisholm. However, in 1994, Victoria underwent council amalgamations, which resulted in Braybrook being incorporated into the City of Maribyrnong. The suburb of Braybrook continues to attract considerable attention from the residents of City of Brimbank, particularly its historical features, the old buildings and distinctive streetscapes that characterise the area.To capture the essence of Braybrook in 2020, a series of photographs were taken. These images document a range of buildings, street scenes, and other notable points of interest throughout the suburb, providing a visual record of its unique character.5579.01- Ashley St Braybrook - Former 3LO - AWA Frequency Changing Building.JPG 5579.02- Ballarat Rd 353 Braybrook - Braybrook Hotel Photo 01.JPG 5579.03- Ballarat Rd 353 Braybrook - Braybrook Hotel Photo 02.JPG 5579.04- Ballarat Rd 353 Braybrook - Braybrook Hotel Photo 03.JPG 5579.05- Cranwell St Braybrook - Cranwell Park 4th March 2020 Photo 01.JPG 5579.06- Cranwell St Braybrook - Cranwell Park 4th March 2020 Photo 02.JPG 5579.07- Cranwell St Braybrook - Wimble Printer Supplers - Cranwell St 4th March 2020.JPG 5579.08 - Duke St Braybrook - Unit Devlopment 4th March 2020 Photo 01.JPG 5579.09 - Duke St Braybrook - Unit Devlopment 4th March 2020 Photo 02.JPG 5579.10 - Duke St Braybrook - Unit Devlopment 4th March 2020 Photo 03.JPG 5579.11 - Duke St Braybrook - Unit Devlopment 4th March 2020 Photo 04.JPG 5579.12 - Maribrynong River Braybrook 4th March 2020 Photo 01.JPG 5579.13 - Market Place 1 - 17 Place Braybrook.JPG 5579.14 - Salvation Army Hall 40 Myalla St Braybrook 16th Jan 2020.JPG 5579.15 - Churchill Ave Shops 2021 Photo 01.JPG 5579.16 - Churchill Ave Shops 2021 Photo 02.JPG 5579.17 - Churchill Ave Shops 2021 Photo 04.JPG 5579.18 - Cranwell Park 2021 Photo 05.JPG 5579.19 - Cranwell Park 2021 Photo 06.JPG 5579.20 - Cranwell Park 2021 Photo 02.JPG 5579.21 - Pennell Reserve 2021 Photo 03.JPG 5579.22 - Pennell Reserve 2021 Photo 01.JPG 5579.23 - Pennell Reserve 2021 Photo 07.JPG 5579.24 - Pennell Reserve 2021 Photo 08.JPG 5579.25 - Pennell Reserve 2021 Photo 09.JPG 5579.26 - Pennell Reserve 2021 Photo 13.JPG 5579.27 - Pennell Reserve 2021 Photo 05.JPG 5579.28 - Skinner Rerserve Pavilion 2021 Photo 01.JPG 5579.29 - Skinner Reserve 2021 Photo 05.JPG 5579.30 - Skinner Reserve 2021 Photo 06.JPG 5579.31 - Skinner Reserve 2021 Photo 07.JPG 5579.32 - Skinner Reserve 2021 Photo 13.JPG 5579.33 - Skinner Reserve 2021 Photo 20.JPG 5579.34 - Skinner Reserve 2021 Photo 25.JPG 5579.35 - Lance Reschstein 'Aeroplane' Playground Sign Skinner Reserve 2021 Photo 01.JPG 5579.36 - South Rd 131 - 137 Braybrook 2020.JPG 5579.37 - South Rd 103 - 125 Braybrook 2020.JPG 5579.38 - South Rd 125 - 131 Braybrook 2020.JPG 5579.39 - Myalla St 40 Braybrook - Salvation Army Hall 16th Jan 2020.JPG" ballarat road, ashley street, cranwell street, duke street, market place, braybrook, 3lo radio transmitter, braybrook hotel, cranwell park, wimble, salvation army hall, myalla street, churchill avenue, pennell reserve, braybrook football club, southern cross archery club, skinner reserve, lance reschstein 'aeroplane' playground, braybrook sporting club -

Created by BIGFish in Footscray, he was designed as a playful, larger‑than‑life movie mascot. He was a muscular figure holding a globe wrapped in a strip of film, symbolising movies around the world The sculpture and was built from metal, with a bold, comic‑book aesthetic and was only intended originally to last only five years, but he became a local icon instead. The Sunshine Marketplace redevelopment in 2016 included a significant refurbishment of Millennium Man but by 2020, he had deteriorated badly with rust and structural issues, and the fact that people loved climbing on him made him a public liability. The Millennium Man was removed sometime after 2020 and has not returned to the site. The wooden buildings of Sunshine Railway Station were demolished as part of the Region Railway Line works that created additional and longer platforms, pedestrian overpass with lifts for disability access. The City of Brimbank Sunshine Branch Library and Customer Service Centre was built on the former H.V. McKay Massey Ferguson Site. Eventually this complex was demolished to make way for the new Brimbank Community & Civic Centre. 5809.01 - Village Cinemas Sunshine Millennium Man.jpg 5809.02 - Village Cinemas Sunshine Millennium Man.jpg 5809.03 - Sunshine Railway Station Construction During Region Railway Line Works.jpg 5809.04 - Sunshine Branch Library And Customer Service Centre.jpg 5809.05 - Sunshine Branch Library And Customer Service Centre.jpg 5809.06 - Sunshine Branch Library And Customer Service Centre.jpg 5809.07 - Sunshine Branch Library And Customer Service Centre.jpg 5809.08 - Sunshine Branch Library And Customer Service Centre.jpg 5809.09 - Sunshine Branch Library And Customer Service Centre.jpg 5809.10 - Sunshine Branch Library And Customer Service Centre Demolition.jpg sunshine library, sunshine customer service centre, hampshire road, sunshine, millennium man, village cinemas, sunshine market place -
