Summary - The article highlights teacher Jenny Vincent’s work to improve attitudes toward mathematics through the Keys to Life Early Mathematics Program. Ms Vincent has been seconded from Ringwood Primary School (now Great Ryrie Primary School) to the Department of Education’s Early Years of Schooling Branch to coordinate the initiative. The program emphasises maths as an essential life skill and focuses on four key areas: classroom teaching, support for children with special needs, professional development for teachers, and parent involvement. A photo shows Joshua, aged 5, participating in a counting activity at Great Ryrie Primary School, one of seven Victorian schools involved in the program. (Co-Pilot 11/7/2026)Photo Caption: One, two, three: Joshua 5 counts with blocks at Great Ryrie Primary School, one of seven Victorian schools to be involved in the new program.

This book was produced by experienced teachers to meet the requirements of the revised course of study in arthmetic for elementary schools. Teachers were expected to use this book as an aid rather than merely as a series of exercises as a matter of routine. This book would have been used by children all over Victoria in year 7 or form 1 for maths classes. This book is social significance due to the names of local people that are in the book and shows that this would have been used in Kiewa Valley elementary schools in the mid 20th Century. This is the only one of this book in our collection and therefore has good interpretive capacity and is in fair condition. Red material cover with black writing on front and and spine.
