Hugh Jeffrey attended the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music at Melbourne University, graduating in 1940. This Dux award pin was presented to him during this time, but is undated. It is a gold badge with its frame shaped like a shield, carrying heavy engraving. Inset into the shield is an other smaller shield in copper, with "HJ" in stylised copperplate engraving on the front and "Dux" on the back. Dux of College honour boards were on display in the Assembly Hall (Sturt Street building north wing). They are featured in 1918 photographs of the Assembly Hall. The three boards cover the following years: 1868 - 1895 (partially defaced), 1896 - 1921 (completely defaced) and 1922 - 1952 (complete). This new board replacing the originals were created prior to the centenary celebration in 1964 and hung in the Memorial Hall. At amalgamation (1974) and because the Senior students moved to the Mair Street campus) this board was co-opted to honour Middle School Dux. In 2012 the school undertook a major project and created three new boards. One board honours Ballarat College Dux (1868 - 1973) and School Captains (1914 - 1973); another board honours Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies' College Dux and Head Prefect (1919 - 1973). These boards resemble the 1950 re-creation. These images feature various personnel attending courses and the Middle East Tactical School. This school honed the leadership and command skills of officers. The images are part of the collection of Bill Thomason, a Bendigo collector of militaria. The collection includes two albums put together by a Lieutenant Brown in 1940-41, possibly attached to the 19th Training Battalion at Biet Jirja in Palestine. The albums record events and personalities from units passing through the camp, including many friends of the author in a range of units. The images include those taken by Brown, along with images seemingly supplied by friends from different units. Contains unique images of AIF life in Palestine and Syria.Photographs of participants and environment of the METS and MEWTS training schools for officers. The local photograph shows the original footbridge across the Merri River near its mouth, the Viaduct road and the Warrnambool Breakwater with the Titan crane on it. The breakwater's construction was completed in 1890, the year this photograph was taken. The Viaduct has since been filled in to prevent water passing through the pylons, and the footbridge has been replaced. The photograph was presented to Flagstaff Hill on the centenary of South Warrnambool Primary School, 1877 to 1977, by the school's Warrnambool South Primary School Centenary Committee. The centenary was celebrated during August 12-13-14. The school was decommissioned in the 1990s.The photograph is locally significant for recording the completion of the Warrnambool Breakwater, for showing the original design of the Viaduct and for a clear view of the original footbridge across the Merri River. The Middle Island Maremma Project began in 2006 when there was a sharp decline in the colony size of Little Penguins on Middle Island due to fox predation. Maremma Guardian dogs were trained and placed on Middle Island to protect the penguins from foxes during the breeding season. The children and adults were at a working bee at Bulla Primary School and this group were concentrating on repairing some of the school's playground equipment.
