For many years the level crossing at Deer Park held at the ever increasing traffic in the area. It was also the scene of a number of level crossing accidents. This telephone directory lists the telephone extensions of various University of Melbourne employees' names and their positions from the Administrative Departments, Academic Department, Library and the Mt. Derrimut Field Station in 1989. Mt. Derrimut Field Station was originally a stock breeding property, beginning with the bluestone house dating back to 1854 and later the Mt Derrimut homestead. It operated as a farm until 1952. The homestead complex was purchased by ICI and used as a training centre until 1963, when it was acquired by the Melbourne University for an Agricultural Field Station and was used until 1996. The site is now the Mt. This harvester, a 1908 AL Type Stripper Harvester was made in the H.V. McKay Factory, Yuille Street, Ballarat. After sitting for many years in a paddock and in poor condition, the harvester was donated to the Sunshine and District Historical Society. Due to the lack of storage, the Society made temporary storage arrangements at Mt Derrimut. In the 1990's the Society obtained a grant for its restoration. Once these works were completed, the harvester was then located in the foyer outside the Sunshine Library Hampshire Road Sunshine. When this library was demolished to make way for the new Brimbank Community and Civic Centre, the harvester was once again put into temporary storage at the Brimbank City Council Operations Centre, Stadium Drive, Keilor Park. Prior to the new Brimbank Community and Civic Centre building works being completed, the harvester went through some minor restoration works of cleaning, repairing a damaged panel and repainting. All this worked was carried out on site at the Brimbank City Council Operations Centre by Artist Robert Jackson. Once the new Brimbank Community and Civic Centre building works were completed in 2016, the harvester was installed in the building and it is now suspended in the main foyer of the building. ICI Deer Park was one of the most important industrial sites in Victoria, the birthplace of Australia’s commercial explosives industry and later a major chemicals, plastics, and fertiliser hub. The factory operated from 1875 until the early 2000s and shaped the entire civic, employment, and suburban landscape of Deer Park, Sunshine, St Albans, and the western suburbs. Darcy Worcester, an ICI employee was a keen photographer. He took many photographs around Melbourne when he was working for ICI during 1955 and 1956.
