Photo of a portrait by Kim Tarpey of Tracey Naughton. Tracey was Eltham’s first Community Arts Officer. Kim coordinated a couple of drawing groups at the North Riding Living and Learning Centre. This organisation eventually metamorphosed into Living and Learning Nillumbik (Panton Hill). Tracey sat for the portrait group. The work was exhibited at the Community Centre in an exhibition organised for the Eltham Festival. Unfortunately the work went missing later down the track when on loan to an art centre and has not been recovered. Kim Tarpey advised "Tracey Naughton sat for my portrait drawing group at Panton Hill. She had a watch with a print of the Mona Lisa on the dial - so I named it the 'Tracey-Lisa.' Rupertswood Mansion was the Sunbury residence of the Clarke family from 1874 until 1922 when H.V.McKay of Sunshine Harvester fame bought it from Hon. W.L. Russell Clarke in 1922. After the death of H.V.McKay in 1926, it was purchased by W. Naughton who then sold the mansion and 700 acres of land to the Salesian Fathers, who are the present owners. The City of Moorabbin Historical Society was formed c 1960 by a group of Moorabbin residents who were concerned that the history of the area should be preserved. A good response to a call for items related to the historical area of Moorabbin Shire brought donations of a wide variety of artefacts which are now preserved by the current members of CMHS at Box Cottage Museum . Helen Stanley, Secretary of CMHS, began producing a Newsletter for members in April 2007 to provide current information and well researched items of historical interest Helen Stanley has produced a bi-monthly Newsletter, 2007 - 2013, for the members of the City of Moorabbin Historical Society that contains well researched interesting historical items, notification of upcoming events, current advice from Royal Australian Historical Society , Museums Australia Victoria and activities of Local Historical Societies. The Newsletter is an important record of the activities of the CMHS The issue of Chinese migration was very inflamed and caused much distress to local market gardeners c1900.
