The artist, Clifton Pugh, grew up in Briar Hill. He served in WWII and settled at Cottles Bridge, building his own house and forming Dunmoochin artist colony. He married three times and had two sons. Thomas Sweeney (1802-1867) was transported in 1823 and granted a conditional pardon in 1838. He married and moved to the Port Phillip District, buying land at Eltham. His house, "Culla Hill" (renamed "Sweeneys") still stands.
