These family notices were collected by Elaine Nobelius, granddaughter of Carl Axel Nobelius. Elaine and her husband Douglas Morris were local residents. Carl Axel Nobelius founded the acclaimed Nobelius Nurseries.Twelve family notices clipped from newspapers and kept by Elaine Morris (nee Nobelius). The notices relate to Nobelius family members: Rupert (Jock) Nobelius; Florence Nobelius; Audrey Fyffe (nee Nobelius); Lawrence Nobelius; and Elaine Nobelius and Douglas Morris. In 1892 Carl moved his family and eight surviving children Hilda, Oscar, Percy, Archie, Ruby, Rupert, Clifford, and Stella to a house which he had built at Emerald. Their sons Oscar and Archie were keen cricketers and the local paper recorded a match between their Narre Warren team and a team from Clyde. Both were gifted bowlers.This record holds historic significance as it captures the history of agriculture in Emerald's history. It also captures the house of Archie Nobelius who was the son of Carl and Emily Nobelius. This photograph is historically significant because Emily Jane Brightwell was married to Carl Axel Nobelius, a nursery proprietor. Emily (b. 1857) was a first-generation migrant born in Creswick, Victoria. Her parents were gold rush expatriates of Ballarat, Victoria. Emily became a highly esteemed and prominent resident of Emerald. She took a keen interest in initiatives that supported the advancement of the district. The gloves and the stretcher illustrate the conventions expected of women in that era, particularly those from important or well to do families. Social convention required women to wear gloves in public. The gloves are wrist length fine white leather decorated around the wrist and on the top of the hand. There is a small elastic strip under each wrist. Gloves were made in a variety of fabrics but 'kid' was very common. Kid is very fine leather, which fits over the hands like a second skin if the gloves are well made.The stretcher and the gloves belonged to Frances Nobelius (nee Ayers) from a notable Emerald family.Carved bone glove stretchers.
