The Phasmatid Didymuria Violescens have been increasing and causing defoliation in south eastern Australia.The author R.L.Newman is the 'Works Forestry Officer - Kiewa Territory reported for the SECV'Fears have been held for the survival of stands of certain eucalypt species the destruction of which might have affected the stability of the Kiewa catchment. Spraying was carried out by the SECV in 1961 and 1963. This was found to be successful indicating that there will be no need for further spraying in the treated areas at least for some years.'Yellow book with 74 pages. Photograph of officer and 4 crew members rescued & interned. During June & July 1943 11 longrange Uboats including the U168, of the type 1xsc were despatched to the Indian Ocean forming what became known as the Monsun (Monsoon) Group. The U168 commanded by Kapitanleutenant Helmut Pich was intercepted on the surface off the coast of Surabaya on th 6-10-1944 by the Dutch submarine "Zwaardvisch" and sunk with a loss of 23 crew. Of the 27 survivors only 5, including the Kommandant were taken on the dutch submarine for transport to Fremantle. Hlemut Pich and his 3 officers and i quartermaster transported to Tatura in Victoria where they secured notoriety as only captive Uboat crew outside North America and the United Kingdom.photography, photograph, slides, film -

This is an army officer’s hat from the Australian Army. It dates back to the 1940s before the word ‘Commonwealth’ was deleted in 1949 from the name of the military forces. The Australian Army has used the rising sun emblem in its official insignia since the early 1900s. The owner of this hat is not known. This hat has no known local provenance but is retained for display purposes.This is a khaki hat with an oval padded crown and a rounded peak. The top has four metal eyeleted air holes. The badge on the hat has the Rising Sun emblem. There is a brown leather strap round the brim attached by metal buttons. The inside of the hat has a blue cloth lining with a square of cellophane. There is a grey leather internal band in the peak section overlaid with black material. There is some slight staining inside the hat. Australian Commonwealth Military Forces -
