Danish architect Jørn Utzon who had won the competition arrived in Australia with a bronze plaque that can still be seen on the steps today and was placed at the point where the axes of the two halls intersect. Due to problems with the site and construction Utzon resigned and Australian architect Peter Hall took over. The advice given to the Attorney General regarding completion of Opera House in accordance with Utzon's design is at variance with the suit of Mr Barkell and Mr Peacock that works cannot be completed without Utzon's employment. CEMA Art Collection Noted that this work was sent by Caltex in exchange for the winner of the 1973 Caltex Prize, which was part of the Portland Art Society Art Prize. The exchanged work was a print by Greg Moncrieff. Included in the 1999 "Salvage" Exhibition at CEMA Arts Centre.The painting depicts the Sydney Opera House in shades of blue and brown. This manuscript was intended to be presented as a lecture at the Royal Institute of British Architects Annual Conference in November 1971 (see item D456). This manuscript was unfinished when Robin Boyd died in October 1971. It was published in 'Architecture Plus', 'Architecture Plus', Vol.1, No.7, August 1973. The front cover of the issue has an image of one of the sails of the Sydney Opera House. The lead article is by Robin Boyd titled ‘A Night at the Opera House’ (pp. 48-55). This is a very important article. Note the article is prefaced by remarks by the Editor, but the year of Boyd's death is incorrectly given as 1972, instead of 1971.
