This group of items is retained as a record of a typical project of the Ringwood Amateur Photography using multi-media facilities available in 1965 - ie slides and slide projector and an audio tape reocrding to accompany the slideshow. Project by the RIngwood Amateur Photography Club in 1965 - a slideshow entitled "Our City of Many Faces" cvoering Melbourne, the Dandenongs, Bayside beach etc. Originally donated as a tin box of Slides, and audio narration on reel of tape, and a handwritten booklet with the text and notation of slide number for each text comment. The slides were then scanned at RDHS Archives (2024), the audio tape was converted to a digital file by Aidem Media, and the slides and audio file combined into a digital movie by Ken Briscoe and Rob Carter (RDHS) which was subsequently shown to a meeting of RDHS. The speaker on the audio tape is not identified After conversion and cataloguing, the physical slides, audio tape and tin were disposed of. Only the handwritten script booklet is retained (along with the digital files). The final movie is not loaded to Victorian Collections (256Mb) but is available from the RDHS Archives. Attached is a pdf copy of the script booklet, the audio tape digital copy, a pdf table index to images, and images of the tin and each of the slides. Annotation to the Handwritten Booklet: "A record of Time and Tide in Ringwood, Melbourne, Australia".

Collection of unidentified and undated slides in tin with the "Our City of Many Faces" project slides (See VC11214). These appear to be various slides taken by members as exercises but no identification written on the slide holders. The slides were digitised by RDHS in 2023, and jpg's loaded to this record. The original slides were disposed as they had started to deteriorate.

Organised sport and clubs began in 1919 with the formation of the Junior Technical School Students' Association. Clubs included the Rifle Club, Wireless Club, Senior Cadet team, Photography Club and Bugle Band. Sport was the Associations main concern. The House system was developed and boys competed within this structure. In 1926 the North Central Junior Technical School Sports Association was formed. Students from the district competed against each other in football, cricket and tennis. The number of schools increased and more sports were introduced. Ballarat Junior Technical School was a strong competitor. Many ex-students made a mark in sport out of the Ballarat area. The photograph shows Ray Bilney - second from the left. Born 2 November 1945, Ray began cycling aged 10. In 1963 he was Australian Junior Road Champion. From 1964 to 1966 he was Australian Senior Road Champion. He was in the Australian team at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and came 4th in the race, aged 18 years. In 1966 he went to the Commonwealth Games in Jamaica and won a Silver Medal at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970. Ray was Ballarat Sportsman's Club Sportsman-of-the-Year 1965/66 and inducted into their Hall of Fame. In 1965 Ray was Cyclist-of-the-Year and won the coveted Sir Hubert Opperman Trophy. In May 2013, Ray was inducted into the Victorian Cycling Hall-of-Fame. During his time at the Junior Technical School, he sporting abilities were evident and in 1961 he was Top Sportsman of the school. The same year he was one of eight boys chosen to be Prefects of the school. He is an Alumni of Federation University. The Warrnambool Camera Club is a group of like -minded people who meet once a month in Dennington. The ledger contains lists of entrants and photographs from International Exhibitions of Photography held from 1966 to 1970. The exhibition was held in January 1966 at the Warrnambool Town Hall. Patrons were the Governor of Victoria Sir Rohan Delacombe and the Hon. H. E. Bolte.The significance of this ledger lies with its links to a local club which is still viable. Henry Christian (c.1809-91), the grandfather of the photographer, was one of the first settlers in Kew. He arrived in Victoria with his wife Agnes and son Orlando in 1855 on the Gypsy Queen. He established a rope-making business in Bulleen Road by 1858 but was declared insolvent two years later. In his final years, he was celebrated as one of the oldest living settlers of the district. His son, Orlando Henry Beater Christian (c.1853-1930) became a member of the Hawthorn Band and a foundation member of the Willsmere Swimming Club. Orlando and his wife Elizabeth had four children of which Henry Beater Christian (1886-1962) was the eldest.Small black and white photograph of the Yarra River at Studley Park. The Kromskop (pronounced Chromescope) is one of the earliest commercial applications of colour photography, and was invented by Frederic Eugene Ives and announced around 1896, it is described in his English patent of 1895 and in a US patent of 1894. It was shown at a Camera Club in Britain in January 1896 and at the February Royal Photographic Society meeting, and was available for sale from early 1897. The Photochromoscope Syndicate was formed in 1896 or 97 to promote the viewer in Britain, and wound up in 1899. It was manufactured in south London.A monocular instrument used to reproduce colours, in a mahogany box The viewer combines stereo images from three-colour separation transparencies called Kromograms, these are viewed through red, green and blue filters. A Kromogram comprises three monochrome transparencies printed from three-colour separation negatives which are taped together. The order being red image, blue image, green image with a label and caption between the red and blue images. The red image lies horizontally on the top step of the viewer above a red filter, the blue image lies on the lower step above a blue filter, the green image stands vertically at the back of the viewer. The red and blue images are reflected into the eyepieces by transparent mirrors, these are coloured to absorb the light that they reflect to prevent a double image from the rear surface of the mirror, the mirror for the red image is coloured cyan/blue, that used for the blue filter is coloured green (the patent indicates a yellow filter). The green image is illuminated by a yellow reflector. As the mirror below the blue image is green there is no need for a green filter immediately in front of the green image. The viewer can be used in daylight, for some conditions a diffuser is used, this is hinged to the yellow reflector and laid across the steps. An artificial light was also available. The mirrors and image positions can be adjusted in the event that they become misaligned.
