Article one 'In the Spotlight' details the history of the Pieper Family in Bendigo and the hotel at Piepers Hill. On the back of the article in pencil is written 'Thursday's Advertiser Sept 22, 49 (Bendigo Advertiser 22/9/1949). Article two is from the Bendigo Sun 15/10/1925 and shows a photo of three male members of the Pieper family. The accompanying caption is in poor condition but the name Carl Pieper is legible also the following information 'In Bendigo district since 1855. They came to Bendigo 70 years ago ...... Adelaide. Gustave Adolphe arrived in Australia from Germany with his father Otto (see Item 10641.61) in 1856 arriving in Bendigo via Adelaide. He married Annie Anders-Pohl in 1876. He took over his father-in-laws vineyard at Axe Creek. Gustave and Annie had the following children:- Alice MAtilda (1877-1984) m. Fred Jenkinson in 1911; Amelia (1879-1954) m. Alfred Ernest Dunstone in 1912; Gertrude (1881-13/3/1959) m. Henry Dunn in 1908; Carl Otto (1884-3/12/1960) m. Friedrich Otto Pieper(1824-26/7/1873) married Marie Dorothea Salau (1829 -1/8/1908). They had the following children:- Ernest Louis Fritz (1848-1939) m. Mary Boyd in 1884; Otto Emil Christian (1850 - 1930) m. Amelia Boundy; Gustav Adolphe (1852 - 1937); Frederick Herman (1854 - 1917); Mathilde Agnes (1856 - 1940) m. George Edwin Allen in 1888; Hermann (1858 - 1859); Agnes Clara Bertha ( Clara)(1860-1861); Louisa Amelia (1862 -1948) m. Jochim Kahland in 1891; Henry (1865 - 1937); Anna Marie (1867- 1955) m. Thomas Craike in 1888. Following Thomas' death in 1900, Anna remarried Phillip Sherzinger in Perth in 1916.; William Archibald (1869- 1959 ).. Ernest Louis Fritz Pieper (1848 -20/10/1939) married Mary Jane Boyd in 1884 Gustav Adolph (1852-9/10/1937) married Annie Pohl Anders in 1876. Otto Emil Christian (10/8/1850 - Sept 1930) married Amelia Maude Boundy in 1878. These three were all born in Gawler, SA and were the sons of Frederick Otto Pieper and his wife Dorothea (nee Salan) who were originally from Prussia.Three gents, two seated and one standing behind, photographed outside weatherboard house.
