The Jacket belonged to Dennis James Powell, enlisted on 7.5.1941 No VX55199. Was a POW, discharged on 21.12.1945 in 2/29th Bn. Served Korea in the 3rd Bn No 32729 from 27.5.1951 - 14.8.1951, 24.9.51 - 22.4.1952. The service ribbons on the jacket are; 1939 - 45 Star Pacific Star British War Medal Australian Service Medal Korea Medal Un Medal Korea. The pants have posssibly been used to make up a uniform. 1. This is a black woollen jacket. It has 4 front pockets. It has Sgt's stripes on arm (Gold). It has RA Inf buttons. On the collars are another pattern RA Inf button - Kings Crown. Shiled design surrounded with oak leaves. Crossed rifles in centre of shield. It has six ribbons - see below. 2. Trousers - black wool. red stripe on legs. Fly is held shut with buttons, black. Two side pockets - One rear pocket. 3. Shirt - off white - civilian. 4. Belt - black wool, brass buckle. 5. Tie - black, purple liner.Jacket - Inside has written - “3/2729 J.D. Item is part of the BCOF Association collection. Refer Cat No 7625This is a large photo album. The front and rear covers are made from wood. The basic colour is dark brown. On the front cover is painted a picture of Mt. Fuji, a Japanese village, a bridge and a small building on land, a tree and an archway. Colours are white, gold, red and mauve. It also has a very fine layer of reflective material - possible pearl shell. Inside are a large quantity of Aust soldiers in Japan - postwar. There are tourist type photos as well. Tokyo - Kure - Iwakuni. There are coloured postcards amongst the photos. It also has numerous scenes of Japanese civilian life. There are a few unused pages at the end of the album.ww2, japan, bcof

The album begins with sporting images mid-1930s then moves to photos of the Air Gunnery School, West Sale during WW2, then to New Guinea, featuring photos of Fred McGeary 55305, RAAF support personnel in New Guinea and Borneo. Helga Griffin, daughter of Austrian engineer father and German mother. Interned aged 6 years and sent to Australia with her parents and young brother. Five years interned in Camp 3 near Rushworth, then released to Melbourne. Helga vividly describes her early childhood in Persia. The mixed emotions of her whole family during the internment experience and postwar, trying to adjust to a new country, new culture, new language.
