This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand.The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. The Presbyterian Church was built in 1871 by local contractor and grazier James Patterson of Nardoo Park, Woosang. The Presbyterian and Methodist Churches formed combined Parish in 1969. The buildings were demolished in 1989.Colour photograph of Charlton Presbyterian Church and Hall. The white-painted brick church building is on the right. The letters A . D 1871 in black are on the front of the church. There is also a bell tower, a small gothic arched window and a small round leadlight window on the front wall. The church hall is a white weatherboard building with blue trim. Red brick pillars stand at the entrance to the church and the hall. The Charlton Presbyterian Church was built in 1871 by James Patterson, a contractor and grazier of Nardoo Park, Woosang. Photo was taken after cyclone which hit Charlton in 18th December 1934. This is an invoice sent to Messrs W.& J. Hall in September 1871 by the Committee of the Tower Hill Presbyterian Church. It refers to the annual church seat rental fee of three pounds, half of which had been paid in January of that year. The Tower Hill Presbyterian Church was under the auspices of the Koroit Presbyterian Church and services had been held in the Tower Hill area as early as 1845. The first permanent minister, Rev. Lachlan McGillivray. was appointed in 1849 and a wooden church was erected at Tower Hill in 1850. William and James Hall were early farmers in the Tower Hill district.This invoice is of considerable interest as a rare memento of the 19th century Tower Hill Presbyterian Church and a record of the practice of charging an annual fee for a family's use of its own pews in a church.This is a sheet of blue and cream mottled paper with ruled red lines, black printing and handwriting in ink. The sheet is creased, torn at the edges and faded.Messrs W. & J.
