At the Game is a celebration of Country, Culture, Community and Connection through sport. The Technique used is called Quilling, using paper strips rolled by hand into coils then placing them together in the Artwork. The different colours within the artwork represent the various people coming together in one shared space. The different elements reflecting the important role that sport can play in bringing people together, the stadium becomes more than a place to compete or spectate, it is a meeting place for people of all communities to gather, connect and share. At the Game represents unity through sport, acknowledging the strength of aboriginal culture and connection to culture, while celebrating the way sport can create a shared sense of belonging and community for all.Aunty Glenda, a proud Wadawurrung Elder, is an artist whose work radiates with vibrant colours and boundless creativity. The Methodist Girls' Comradeship was formed in 1918 with the first Branch being in Bondi, NSW. There were three sections: Junior Rays, 8 - 11 years; Senior Rays, 11 - 15 years and Comrades, 15 years and over. The aims of the MGC was to "challenge young people with the saving power of Jesus Christ and provide avenues of christian service" and "to provide for the spiritual, social, physical and educational welfare of the members". This verse is a traditional poem or inscription historically dedicated to the art of needlework, embroidery, and samplers. In the 18th and 19th centuries, young girls frequently stitched verses like this onto their school room samplers to demonstrate both their needlework skills and their virtuous upbringing. The verse encourages young women to use their hands with unmatched skill to master the needle (embroidery) and honor the quill (writing or drawing designs). This text belongs to a genre of anonymous "sampler verses" widely used in the 1700s and 1800s. These verses were often distributed by schoolmistresses or printed in specialized instruction manuals to serve a dual purpose: moral instruction and literacy practice. The earliest recorded physical evidence of this exact verse appears on an English needlework sampler stitched by a girl named Ann Luty in 1788, at the age of 13. Traditional child's sampler on ecru linen embroidered in a variety of coloured silks and stitches. External border in a traditional strawberry design. Ornate dividing bands separate the alphabet, numerous floral and tree motifs. Large bottom panel depicts two men carrying a sedan chair or 'litter' with person inside. Life’s a Dish was a tourism campaign created by the City of Greater Bendigo in conjunction with Bendigo Pottery to encourage food tourism within the City. Seven restaurants and cafes whose menus featured local ingredients were chosen to participate with their businesses promoted on ceramic dinner plates. Customers were encouraged to purchase all seven plates and were then eligible for the eighth ‘Connoisseur Master Plate’ free. The limited edition plates were made by Bendigo Pottery and artist Sue James was employed to work with each resturant on a design, hand painting each plate. Plates were priced at $25.00 each and were also available at the Visitor Centre. This is the second Life's a Dish series and artist Faye Brady was the painter of the first series, of which we currently have no examples. The first Life's a Dish series launched in 2006 featured Balgownie Estate, Bazzani Italiano, The Bridge, Gallery Cafe, Georgie's Cellar Restaurant, GPO, Goldmines Restaurant and Bar, Let's Get Saucy, The Puddler, Quills, Raffaelles and Whirrakee. Established by George Guthrie in 1857 (about 5km north of its current site) and then again seven years later in 1864 after it initially closed, Bendigo Pottery remains one of the most influential and longest running potteries in Australia. Over the years the Pottery has contributed to the growth and development of the district through both its products including building products, table ware and decorative and commemorative war as well as artistically, being responsible for training and supporting many potters locally. It has partnered with the City on various tourism promotions and the Civic Collection holds a number of important items within its collection.Set of eight dinner plates each featuring a hand drawn design which encompass the restaurants defining features. Restaurants include Domaine Asmara (0407.2), Gallery Cafe (0407.7), Hotel Shamrock (0407.5), La Piazza (0407.3), Malayan Orchid (0407.6), Quills (0407.1)and Twenty 2 (0407.4). A penknife, or pen knife, is a small folding knife. It was originally used to describe a knife used for cutting or sharpening a quill to make a dip pen nib. Originally, penknives were used for thinning and pointing quills to prepare them for use as writing instruments and, later, for repairing or re-pointing the quills. They did not necessarily have folding blades, but resembled a scalpel or wood knife by having a short, fixed blade at the end of a long handle.
