These goggles belonged to RAAF Pilot Francis Robertson who crash landed his trainee solo flight tiger moth into Nurse Carters home at Chiltern in 1943. Pilot Officer Robertson then went on to serve in New Guinea whilst flying Tiger Moths and Wirraways. WW2 significance with Francis Robertson having served in the New Guinea Campaign, flying Tiger Moths and Wirraways. It is not known how these goggles belonging to the late Evan Johns were acquired. Evan did not enlisted in the Defence Forces but did have an interest in aviation.The frame of these goggles is in excellent condition with virtually no paint loss and only minor marking. The pressed brass frame incorporating hinged lens holders is finished in black paint.The nosepiece leather and backing chamois are both good . The original rubber facepads are in excellent shape and remain pliable; The clear lenses do have delamination marks . The strap components are excellent throughout with clear Air Ministry markings. Front is a small anti glare lens of a squarish design. The pivot for same has a spring loaded locking mechanism. This can be locked into an up or down position. The space for the nose has a layer of soft liable leather. The goggles are held to the face with 2 large semi stretch cord rings. The rings in turn have a 32 cm leather strap joining the rings at the back of the aircrew's head. Inside is a leather section at the top of the nose bridge and there is a block of India rubber above and below each eye. Unlike other examples, this set does not have fur lined interior suggesting that it may have been used by ground crew rather than those at altititude.Goggles constructed of various materials: rubber edging, metal frames, plastic lens, canvas sides and elastic strap attached via metal buckles. The case belonged to WW2 RAAF Pilot Francis (Frank) Robertson. The case was used to store his pilot equipment (goggles, flying hat) and set of uniforms. 1940's era leather overnight carry case. Belonged to RAAF pilot Frank Robertson. Leather hard mid brown coloured overnight carry case, brass keyholes, leather restraining straps on the inside of the lid. The internal material lining appears to be of strong cotton weave and is strped in colours of light tan, white and fawn. There is no identifying make or brand on the case.
