Book, Grevillea Grove, 2017
This book was compiled and published in 2017. The contents are based on a scrapbook and photographs compiled by Margaret Kleinitz who was Secretary of the Orbost Garden Club during the time when Grevillea Grove was proposed and developed from1979-1989. The development of this garden in a disused quarry in Orbost involved a substantial community campaign and on-going effort, particularly from members of the Garden Club. The demise of Grevillea Grove came when the Vic. Govt. decided to develop this parcel of crown land for a Rainforest Garden and Information Centre. Local resident, Audrey Van Den Berg has compiled this book. Shows the effort and dedication involved in this community project.A 40 page book with cardboard cover. Front cover has 6 colour photos of Grevillea plants overlaid onto a plan of the Grevillea Grove garden. This book contains b/w photographs and a written history of the creation of the Grevillea Grove garden in Orbost. It also has site plans and newspaper articles.GREVILLEA GROVE grevillea grove, orbost -

Postcard (item) - Black and white postcard, Rose Stereograph Company, The Talbot Drive, Marysville, Victoria, 1913-1967
A postcard in a series produced by the Rose Stereograph Company in Victoria, Australia as a souvenir of Marysville.Lady Talbot Drive (Talbot Drive) is a 24 kilometer scenic rainforest car journey which passes a number of walks and waterfalls in the Yarra Ranges National Park. Lady Talbot Drive is named after Lady Sarah Elizabeth, the wife of Sir Reginald Talbot, who was the Governor of Victoria from 25th April, 1904 to 6th July 1908. This road was originally constructed as a corduroy road (or log road) is a type of road or timber trackway made by placing logs, perpendicular to the direction of the road over a low or swampy area. The result is an improvement over impassable mud or dirt roads, yet rough in the best of conditions and a hazard to horses due to shifting loose logs.POST CARD REAL PHOTO THE "ROSE" SERIES DE LUXE PRODUCED IN AUSTRALIA PUBLISHED BY "THE ROSE STEREOGRAPHS"/ Armadale, Victoria.talbot drive, lady talbot drive, lady talbot forest drive, sir reginald talbot, lady sarah elizabeth talbot, rainforest, marysville, victoria, rose stereograph company, p. 2340, postcard, souvenir, corduroy road -

Book, Everbest Printing Company Ltd, 250 Victorian waterfalls, 2011
Victoria is not noted for its waterfalls but in fact there are many hundreds of beautiful waterfalls scattered throughout the state. Each waterfall is different from the next, some remarkably so. Consider the amazing Hopetoun Falls surrounded by lush rainforest ferns near Beech Forest, compared to the often snow-covered Piemans Falls crashing down to the bottom of Bryce Gorge. This publication documents many of the more accessible waterfalls of Victoria, some for the first time, and many close to Melbourne. Ideal for bushwalkers, photographers, campers, or those who are interested in a healthy walk or looking for somewhere to enjoy a pinic lunch. There is nothing better than doing so at the base of a majestic waterfall with the spray drifing across the rock face and the unique sound of the water tumbling into the drop pool below.250 Victorian waterfalls. The Beechworth Burke Museum
Animal specimen - Superb Lyrebird, Trustees of the Australian Museum, 1860-1880
The Superb Lyrebird is a large ground-dwelling bird with powerful legs and long tail. Found in rainforest habitats in southeastern Australia, it forages in leaf litter for food. It has a very powerful song and is known for mimicking other species. The males have spectacular long tail comprising a variety of feather types, where juveniles and females lack the longer tail feathers. This specimen is part of a collection of almost 200 animal specimens that were originally acquired as skins from various institutions across Australia, including the Australian Museum in Sydney and the National Museum of Victoria (known as Museums Victoria since 1983), as well as individuals such as amateur anthropologist Reynell Eveleigh Johns between 1860-1880. These skins were then mounted by members of the Burke Museum Committee and put-on display in the formal space of the Museum’s original exhibition hall where they continue to be on display. This display of taxidermy mounts initially served to instruct visitors to the Burke Museum of the natural world around them, today it serves as an insight into the collecting habits of the 19th century. This specimen is part of a significant and rare taxidermy mount collection in the Burke Museum. This collection is scientifically and culturally important for reminding us of how science continues to shape our understanding of the modern world. They demonstrate a capacity to hold evidence of how Australia’s fauna history existed in the past and are potentially important for future environmental research. This collection continues to be on display in the Museum and has become a key part to interpreting the collecting habits of the 19th century. This male Superb Lyrebird is primarily grey/brown. It has striking tail feathers that are white, beige and darker brown that vary in size. Aside from the middle of its tail feathers, the parts of the bird which are darker brown include the top of its head, wings and back. The bird has strong legs and a small beak. This specimen stands upon a wooden platform.taxidermy mount, taxidermy, animalia, burke museum, beechworth, australian museum, skin, reynell eveleigh johns, bird, superb lyrebird -
