A Tait (Red Rattler) train bound for Princes Bridge crosses the Railway Trestle bridge. Shire of Eltham Offices and library in background (now demolished). Carriages had swinging doors and were "Hot boxes" in the summer with no air conditioning. Tait (Red Rattler) train bound for Mordialloc at McKinnon Road level crossing, McKinnon Railway Station, Frankston line, c. Feb. 1964 The level crossing is the old McKinnon Rd. level crossing right at Mckinnon Railway Station on the Melbourne-Franston line. It no longer exists as the level crossing was amongst the first to be removed in the State Govt. grade separation programme c 2015. The line now runs under Mckinnon Rd in a cutting that holds the new station as well. View is looking northwest from the hillside just north of Allendale Road. The long rectangular house in the upper left is No. 22 Challenger Street, Diamond Creek, right at the sharp turn into Price Court. On the track in the straight section heading northwest are two small bridges where the track crosses the Diamond Creek, each fitted with derailment guard rails to prevent severe derailments should a train come off the tracks whilst crossing the culverts. Note the blue stone edging surrounding the grassy island in the intersection. This stone was originally part of the blue stone lock-up situated behind the Police Station and residence at 728 Main Road (present day Local History Centre and home to Eltham District Historical Society).
