A photo of three men, the two in uniform are former junior legatees that were helped to achieve admission to Southampton Naval College UK when they visited Legacy in 1964. These two outstanding junior legatees that were featured in the June 1957 newsletter. The article explains that Ron Rudd was a member of Footscray classes. And John Woodley had lived at Harelands. Both won entry to the greatest school of navigation at Southhampton UK, which lead to successful careers and were welcomed to Legacy luncheons when they were back in Australia. It is possible these two junior legatees had returned to Legacy in 1964 when this photo was taken. The man is the centre is Ivan Layton, Executive Officer of Legacy for 30 years. John Woodley's brother, Arthur, was also looked after by Legacy and in 1990 he wrote of his life and how Legacy helped him in a document (see item 00107).Many junior legatees enlisted in the services in the second World War. Some returned and joined Legacy as Legatees. The newsletter from June 1957. It featured a the Governor of Victoria and his wife with children on a carousel on the cover as there was an article about the Government House Christmas party in 1956. The president's introduction talked about the Commonwealth countries. An article featured two former Junior Legatees that had had success, John Woodley and Ron Rudd. Legacy had advised both boys to obtain entry to the greatest school of navigation in Southampton UK. They were only two Australians selected in 1955. They had recently visited Legacy and spoke at Legacy meetings. A detailed recap of what was happening at Harelands, naming several JLs and what they were up to. Including Helen James, Ken Knape, Garry Thompson, Peter Turton and Bob Neilson. Also Margaret Gregory, and Lillian May. Also what the boys classes were up to by suburb. A photo of the Senior Widows Club Christmas dinner at the Myer Mural Hall. And Operation Float had been a great success when 500 junior legatees were given a great outing by the Royal Victorian Motor Yacht Club. Careers in the building industry was part 3 of a series on careers. A newsletter published by Legacy in this format for many years from 1942. It mentions "Issued from time to time for Private Circulation among the Sons and Daughters of Deceased Service men and Merchant Seamen who served their Country during the War of 1914-18, or the present War". Many articles on the work of Legacy, including features on boys classes, girls classes, camps, the residences and where their past residents ended up. There are some suggestion for careers and some general interest articles. Accessory - Fan, 1886

Fan was made for Mary Jane Schroder for her marriage to Ralph Pardy Rudd on 24th Nov 1886 in Ceylon. Later carried by three family members at weddings during 1941 by Mrs Kathleen Hubbert then Mrs Mary Barry in 1947 and finally by Sharlene Barry, now Mrs Ron Draeger.1886 bamboo fan mounted with white feathers. Spray of artificial flowers and cream satin ribbon tied in bows and wound round the bamboo handle. Back of fan has circle of boa to conceal joins of white feathers. Button distributed to and worn by Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) members and staff as part of a 2006 campaign protesting the controversial 'WorkChoices' federal industrial relations laws that were introduced by the Liberal John Howard government in 2005-2007. These laws saw the weakening of unfair dismissal laws, giving employers significantly more powers to strip existing rights and wages away. The laws were repealed following the election of an opposition Labor government in 2007 under Kevin Rudd. The 'Howard Target Nurses' campaign was featured in ANF Victorian Branch newsletters around late 2006. During this period, a number of enterprising bargaining agreements were set to soon expire, leaving nurses vulnerable to have rights stripped away under the new IR legislation. A large campaign began, with rallies across the state of Victoria. The August 2006 Branch newsletter featured images of the Tandberg 'Howard targets nurses' design on placards, shirts and badges worn by nurses at these rallies. The illustration by The Age cartoonist Ron Tandberg made reference to John Howard's involvement in wars in the Middle East throughout the early 2000s, and linked this to the 'war' on unions and worker rights.Circular yellow, red and white badge.
