The crowd are gathered around the former Rupertswood gun which originally was a piece of field equipment used by the Rupertswood Battery. The Clarke family eventually gave it the the residents of Sunbury. This item produced to commemorate the centenary of the Rupertswood Battery from 30 December 1884 to 30 December 1984.A square bucket-shaped liqueur glass with a stem that tapers to a round base. Made of clear glass with a gold transfer of "Battery of Horse Artillery" on the front and another transfer on the back commemorating a centenary of the Rupertswood Battery. The Sunbury War Memorial is situated on a triangular section of land which was once at the intersection of Barkly and Stawell Streets. The precinct is also the site of the Rupertswood Gun and the Starkey Fountain. The original photo is part of an album taken by W Walls, the front page of which is inscribed " The Hill /Sunbury/April 1897". Whilest most of the photos relate to the environs of the asylum, there are othrs taken around Sunbury and ? elsewhere. The original album is held as part of the Mental Health library Collection. During 2000 this was transferred from Mont Park to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Presumably Rupertswood Battery gun and gunners.Five men in uniform standing by a field gun. The Rupertswood Battery members participate in many functions in Sunbury.
