Rutherglen State School No. 522 was opened early in 1909 when the Rutherglen Common School (built in 1872 and opened in 1873) became overcrowded. Rutherglen State School is still operating as a primary school, and the Common School is now the Museum of the Rutherglen Historical Society.Black and white photograph, printed on postcard, with a decorative printed border. In 1909 students of Rutherglen State School sent an Australian flag to pupils of Rutherglen Scotland Schools, and a year later a Union Jack flag was sent to the Australian Rutherglen School.
