He was WIA twice and discharged on 31.8.1919. There are two Woodheads with an initial L. This is possibly L.H.B Woodhead No 728, 8th Batt then late in the war 25th Batt. He was WIA twice coming home late 1918. The colour patch on the uniform is possibly 8th Batt. Safstrom was (born in Heathcote, enlisted Bendigo)which fits in with the donor of the items Mrs May Burns. Woodhead was from Mildura. The only connection could be that they were both in England at the same time the card was written. Vera Scantlebury Kate Campbell 'A guide to the care of the young child' [Textbook] Inscribed top right of front endpaper: 'Barbara Saftstrom / FF8269'. ...Vera Scantlebury Brown was born in Linton in 1889, a daughter of Dr George Scantlebury and his wife Catherine, née Baynes. Vera undertook medical training at Melbourne University between 1907 and 1913. After serving in the British Army Medical Unit during World War I, she worked in various positions in Melbourne hospitals and then studied in the US and Canada. In 1926 she was appointed Director of Infant Welfare by the recently established Victorian Department of Health, and became responsible for the development of maternal, infant and pre-school services in Victoria. In 2023 a statue of Vera Scantlebury was erected in Linton's Avenue of Honour in Denison Street. This copy of the book appears to have been owned/used by Barbara Safstrom of Linton.Textbook for nursing students and other health professionals. First compiled by Dr Vera Scantlebury Brown and published as a "Guide to Infant Feeding". Book revised (with Kate Campbell) in 1941, 1951 and 1958. They resided in their home called ‘Kalmar’, after Carl’s hometown, and would start their family with eight children, many of which would succumb to disease or war.
