After a quiet period, interest in bookplates in Australia began to increase in the early 1970s, Entrepreneurial art and book collectors such as Edwin Jewell and others commissioned multiple Bookplate designs from a range of well known fine artists. At a 1997 meeting in Melbourne of the Ephemera Society of Australia Edwin Jewell and others announced the formation of the Australian Bookplate Society. The society was instrumental in promoting the art of the bookplate through establishment of the Australian Bookplate Design competition. Object. Soft off-white kid leather apron, with three sides edged in a 5 cm wide band of blue grosgrain ribbon, mitred at the lower corners. A Vshaped over-lap-13 cm deep at the centre front peak and sewn into the waistband, has a metal angled lodge symbol at the centre front. This symbol which has a circular blue enamel shape at the centre, is repeated in the corners of the lower edge. Two 5 cmx16cm long blue ribbon tabs hang from under the V shaped panel, and have a 5.8 cm x 1.3 cm metal fitting at the lower edge. From this metal fitting, seven x 5 cm long chains, each finished with a small metal ball hang over the lower end of the ribbon tab.P.Blashki8. & Sons.
