Nickel silver is named for its silvery appearance, but ironically it actually contains no elemental silver. Items inscribed with WEARS WHITE meant that the metal stays white even as it wears.Five items of silver plated cutlery. 2133.1 is a small knife, 2133.2 is a fork and 2133.3 is a spoon. These three pieces are children's cutlery. 2133.4 is salt spoon and 2133.5 is a butter knife. All but 2133.1 have metal handles. Household, Cruet Set, Early 20th century
Condiment sets were more a feature of a table setting 100 years ago than they are today. The condiment sets, some very elaborate, have been mostly replaced by simple salt and pepper shakers. This item has no known local provenance but it is an attractive set and is suitable for display as an example of a household This is a condiment set. It has a metal stand with a looped handle and three metal rings for holding a salt container, a pepper container and a mustard dish. The three containers are made of china and are yellow with a decorative border of blue and red flowers. Domestic object - Silverware from Pilot Vessel Wyuna
Her role as a pilot cutter was to sail with pilots on board to meet ships entering Port Phillip Bay. Pilots would be transferred by the Wyuna's workboat to the vessel requiring pilotage while it was stopped dead in the water, with shelter provided by the vessel itself. In the early 1970s the pilot service started using fast launches to allow pilots to board while ships were still underway, and in 1979 the Wyuna was sold to the Australian Maritime College in Launceston, Tasmania as a training vessel. This pot is part of a three piece condiment set which has a Guernsey coat of arms insignia badge attached. See entry 3531 for Salt and Pepper Shakers in this set. It was used in the 1900's and was originally owned by Edward Lloyd Mauger.A small vintage chrome plated mustard pot with a basket weave outer container and a cobalt blue glass insert to hold the mustard. There is no lid or spoon. On one side is attached a blue, red and gold with three lions Guernsey coat of Arms badge.'Guernsey' is stamped on the badge.
