Edward Blatchford Wright was born in 1894 in Birmingham, son of Edward Wright and Florence Emuss. It is not known when he migrated to Australia but he served in the AIF during WW1, seeing action in France. On enlistment aged 20 years 9 months, he gave his occupation as farmer. He married Gertrude Matilda Wain in 1919. He came to Surrey Hills c1924. He was a grocer in the area for several decades with shops in Canterbury Road. In 1942 he is listed at 235 Union Road. This was a residential address. Alan Holt's Surrey Hills property register places him at 365 Canterbury Road (c1920-1930) and 359 Canterbury Road (c1930-1940). He died in 1972 in Mont Albert. His last electoral roll entry in 1968 gives 18 Serpentine Street, Mont Albert. Enquiry to BHS re James Edward Maguire from C Kimpton 1991. Maguire was a policeman in Bendigo, Strathfieldsaye and Lockwood. Seconded in 1878 to hunt for Ned Kelly in Benalla. Pair of matching shirt fronts 11400.602 Pair of identical pieces if pintucked linen shirt fronts. Very fine white linen. Very soft. Centre tuck is 2.75cm wide and perfectly plain. This is bordered by a 2.75 panel of five groups of pintucks. Each group has a 1mm tuck and a 4mm tuck. The outside panel has twenty three 1mm tucks. Pompapiel is a small settlement between Dingee and Serpentine. Edward Martin (b. 1858)arrived in South Australia from Ireland in 1879. In 1882 they settled at Salisury West in Victoria. In 1909 he purchased the property "Lorraine" in Pompapiel. This property was sold and the family moved a mile away. 1911 they repurchased "Lorraine". and continued to farm. Richardson’s figure successfully follows the serpentine line of Art Nouveau sculpture while also echoing the influence of British New Sculpture with its focused attention to bodily detail and surface articulation. This bronze version of The Cloud was cast in 1987 from the original patinated plaster version from 1900 which is also in Bayside City Council's Collection.
