Ray MOLONY Born Albury, New South Wales "Notes for Raymond Walter Molony: Raymond Walter Molony grew up in the Dandenongs, and Maffra where he went to school. He attenended Sale Technical School, before studying at R.M.I.T. from where he gained a diploma of pottery and technical teaching qualifications. He taught at Shepparton Technical College leaving there in 1977 to become a full time potter. Ray Molony established the Mud Factory Pottery in Shepparton in 1977 after purchasing, renovating and extending the old Kialla Methodist church, and building a two storey mud brick pottery. Two of Ray and Deirdre Molony's sons, Kevin and Russell, were employed during the 1980s and 1990s. Kevin Molony left due in the early 1990s due to the recession at that time, and Russell Molony followed soon after. Both competent throwers, with Russell making some creative slab work while Ray continuing to decorate the works. Ray Molony continued to produce studio ceramics at the kialla studion until selling the property in 2000, and semi retiring to Miepoll. Redbyrne Potteries was established in 1975 and was located at 225 Old Dookie Rd, Shepparton, Victoria. It was originally a pear orchard, and Robert Waterson used a tree form in the stamp from early 1976. Soon after Redbyrne Potteries was established Robert Waterson resigned from teaching, enlarged the premises and added kilns and clay making machines. Potters were employed to make functional stoneware to his design, and it became the largest producer of hand-thrown pottery in Victoria. Redbyrne potters included Gilbert Buchanan, Chris Cheer, Graeme Day, Mark Lepp, Steven Elliott, Robert Henderson, Cathy Thompson, Noel Townsend and Craig Willis. Items are impressed 'Redbyrne Potteries Shepparton' and the mark may also include the individual thrower's name. Mark REID Mark Reid began working with clay in the early 1980s, working for a time at Kairi Pottery in North Queensland. In 1985, he and his wife Robyn set up the Torvil Pottery at Buninyong, Victoria. In 1991, they relocated to a 10 acre property in nearby Magpie and set up the Ballarat Clayfire Gallery with a working studio, gallery and residence. In 2005, the Clayfire Gallery was located to Daylesford. Reid signs his work with an incised 'Mark Reid' or 'MR'.
