She then move to Campbell Town Hospitown Hospital for nurse trainin, then Sydney for a midwifery course. When war broke out she enlisted and was posted to the Middle Eat in 1942. 1945 saw her at the army hospital in Bougainville, where she met a sick fellow Tasmanian, Raymond Burke of the 2/27th.
