A light tan book, Vine and Branches - The Story of St Patrick's, Lilydale Parish Centenary Year 1989 with a full wrap around photograph of the church on the occasion of its opening on March 17, 1871. The original old wooden church is seen at the right of the new one. It shows parishioners in their Sunday best clothes gathered outside. There are horses and a buggy. The title is printed in black lettering outlined in white. The spine has the title in similar print. On the bottom right hand corner of the front cover is a small yellow price sticker $12.50. Inside on the front end paper is a Mont De Lancey round stamp. There is a Dedication and a copy of a coloured certificate from The Holy Father giving his blessing to the priest and parishioners of the church in 1989. The title page has, 'I am the Vine... You are the Branches' and a psalm related to this. The Story of St Patrick's, Lilydale To mark the Centenary of the Parish 1989 is printed at the bottom. There is a list of sponsors, a Foreword, Preface and the history of St Patrick's life preceding the 28 chapters which give full details of the local people. This basket was made with pine needles from the property "Hillside" at Mt Duneed belonging to Andrew White. It was made for (Dr) Violet Fullerton who married Douglas Alfred White, grandson of Andrew, by his sisters Mildred, Constance and Ruth. It was then owned by Violet and Douglas' daughter Judith. Sewing basket and lid woven from pine needles. The basket is lined with printed cotton cloth and contains sewing threads, wools and needles.sewing

The Jacobs family lived in Surrey Hills from c 1895-1903 (ref: electoral rolls); by 1909 they were in Gippsland at Toora where Henry Atwood Jacobs was a storekeeper. They had returned to Surrey Hills by 1924 (ref: electoral roll). Capt Jacobs was appointed to the Nunawading Roads Board in 1900; in 1902 he as a member of a deputation to the Minister of Public Works regarding municipal severance. He was in favour of Surrey Hills being a separate municipality. Amy (Amelia) Jacobs was the daughter of Capt Jacobs and his first wife, Eleanor Dobson Mills, who died shortly after the birth of her daughter. Winifred was born c 1900; Mildred Adelaide b 1902, both at 'Spencycroft' in Canterbury Road, Surrey Hills. Winifred married Stephen Edwin Yarnold (1903-1978), a Presbyterian & Uniting Church minister on 26 July 1946. Jack Lockett was the son of Mary Elizabeth Lockett when she was still unmarried. The father of Jack was a man named Henry Bofill, and he was born at Waanyarra on 27th September 1865. It is of note that the Lockett family also lived at Waanyarra and were likely neighbours or knew the Bofill family. Henry later married a woman named Evelyn Mildred Grey and had several children. The family was living somewhere in Melbourne later on when Henry Bofill met with an accident and was killed. He was hit by a motorbike and sidecar in Lygon Street Carlton about 6pm after alighting from a tram. There were a number of witnesses to the accident, and the owner of the motorcycle was charged with manslaughter. Henry Bofill was transferred to St Vincent's Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The mother of Jack Lockett, Mary Elizabeth, was born at Waanyarra on 21st January 1870, the daughter of James and Mary Ann Bryant. Mary gave birth to Jack in 1891. Later she married Robert John Burstall and gave birth to several more children.
