Edited by Ed Burgi, this book chronicles the development of the parish, its community, and the church's role in the local area.A light tan book, Vine and Branches - The Story of St Patrick's, Lilydale Parish Centenary Year 1989 with a full wrap around photograph of the church on the occasion of its opening on March 17, 1871. The original old wooden church is seen at the right of the new one. It shows parishioners in their Sunday best clothes gathered outside. There are horses and a buggy. The title is printed in black lettering outlined in white. The spine has the title in similar print. On the bottom right hand corner of the front cover is a small yellow price sticker $12.50. Inside on the front end paper is a Mont De Lancey round stamp. There is a Dedication and a copy of a coloured certificate from The Holy Father giving his blessing to the priest and parishioners of the church in 1989. The title page has, 'I am the Vine... You are the Branches' and a psalm related to this. The Story of St Patrick's, Lilydale To mark the Centenary of the Parish 1989 is printed at the bottom. There is a list of sponsors, a Foreword, Preface and the history of St Patrick's life preceding the 28 chapters which give full details of the local people. At the back is Sources of Information and Some illustrations, Thanks, and an Abridged Index. The older girl is holding her sister's arm. ...The Jacobs family lived in Surrey Hills from c 1895-1903 (ref: electoral rolls); by 1909 they were in Gippsland at Toora where Henry Atwood Jacobs was a storekeeper. They had returned to Surrey Hills by 1924 (ref: electoral roll). Capt Jacobs was appointed to the Nunawading Roads Board in 1900; in 1902 he as a member of a deputation to the Minister of Public Works regarding municipal severance. He was in favour of Surrey Hills being a separate municipality. Amy (Amelia) Jacobs was the daughter of Capt Jacobs and his first wife, Eleanor Dobson Mills, who died shortly after the birth of her daughter. Winifred was born c 1900; Mildred Adelaide b 1902, both at 'Spencycroft' in Canterbury Road, Surrey Hills. Winifred married Stephen Edwin Yarnold (1903-1978), a Presbyterian & Uniting Church minister on 26 July 1946.
