St Marys was established in 1876 by the Sisters of Mercy. The original convent building was built in 1865 to the design of Vahland and Getzschmann. Original photograph loaned by Sister de Sales of Presentation Sisters in 1988, together with a typed up history of the Sisters in Rutherglen. Father Lawless (later Monsignor) was Priest at St Mary's Rutherglen from 1923 until his death in September 1958. He is buried in Carlyle Cemetery. Ella Bourke (nee Kennedy) attended St Mary's College in Bendigo from 1926 until her matriculation about seven years later. St Marys was established in 1876 by the Sisters of Mercy. The spoon has the name Stokes on the rear of the spoon. This was possibly produced by the Melbourne firm Stokes and Sons Pty Ltd.Silver-plated collectable teaspoon with embossed decoration on top of handle with description 'St Marys College' and motto 'Omnia prote cor Jesu'. St. Marys Catholic Church is now known as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Macedon Street, Sunbury. From information written on the back of the photograph it was believed to be the Presbyterian Church Bulla. This being the case, it was relocated because of the construction of the International Airport. This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages.
