... ...Substation...The substation was also briefly associated with H.V. ...The substation was also briefly associated with H.V. ...This Victorian Railway (VR) D.C. Substation was built as part of the first stage of Melbourne’s rail electrification, in the early 20th century. It functioned as a direct‑current (D.C.) traction substation, supplying power to suburban electric trains. The substation was also briefly associated with H.V. McKay’s Sunshine Harvester Works, supplying power during the early industrial development in Sunshine. Its monumental Renaissance‑style architecture reflected VR’s desire to express technological progress and civic confidence. The Victorian Railway (VR) D.C. Substation is of State historical and architectural significance, representing the era when Victoria undertook large‑scale railway electrification, one of the longest electrified suburban systems in the world at the time. The Power House Talmage St Albiontalmage street, albion, substation -
