Soft covered bookFormed as the Sunshine YCW Football Club in 1959 as a junior club. They joined the "YCW National Football Association" playing its first senior game was in 1963. After winning three premierships in the YCW NFA, the club transferred to the Footscray Districts Football League in 1978. After losing consecutive Grand Finals in 1994 and 1995 in A2 grade the club was promoted to A1 grade (division 1) in 1996 and have remained in the top level of the competition ever since. Sunshine YCW Football Club began in 1942 as a youth‑focused Catholic YCW team, went into recess after WWII, revived in 1959, and grew into a major junior and senior football organisation. It won three YCW premierships, survived fires and relocations, expanded into district leagues, and eventually became the Sunshine Football Club in 2001. This follows after the Western Football League officially adopted netball into its name and structure, becoming the Western Football Netball League early in 2024. The Club's new name featured on the front cover of the 2024 Annual Report.The Sunshine Football Club fielded it first women's netball team in 2018.
