The man on the left of the photograph (in shirt sleeves and wearing apron) is identified as James Nicol, who ran the Linton bakery. Thomas Mardling Wise ran a drapery store, "Ellington House", in Sussex Street, Linton, from the 1860s until the early 1900s. The Wise family lived on a small holding on Carngham Road, Linton.
