In 1896 M.B. John started the Ballarat Brass Foundry in Armstrong Street South on land leased from the Welsh Church. See http://bih.ballarat.edu.au/index.php/Ballarat_Brass_Foundry#BackgroundTwo black and white photographs of MB John Brass Foundry Workers at their Armstrong Street factory. When joined together one large panoramic view is made, which also includes the gates of the Ballarat Gaol.
