Plaque - Tooan State School Plaque
This plaque commemorates the official opening of the Tooan Primary School building on December 5, 1969, by Mr. H. S. Hobbs, who was the District Inspector of Schools at the time. Such plaques were commonly placed on school buildings to mark significant events in the institution’s history. Given that Tooan is a rural area, the school likely served local farming communities before its closure, as many small rural schools were shut down or amalgamated over the years. The item is a rectangular metal plaque with embossed lettering. It is mounted on a slightly larger backing board with a light-coloured border, likely for protection or display purposes. The plaque has four mounting holes, one at each corner, which would have been used for securing it to a wall or structure. The surface of the plaque shows signs of wear, including some discoloration and minor scratches. The text on the plaque reads: TOOAN PRIMARY SCHOOL THIS BUILDING WAS OFFICIALLY OPENED ON 5TH DECEMBER 1969 BY MR H. S. HOBBS, B.A., DIP. ED., DISTRICT INSPECTOR OF SCHOOLS The text is embossed and painted white, providing contrast against the darker metal background.tooan school, official opening, school item -

Functional object - Sugar Bowl
This is a small, antique metal sugar holder or sugar bowl, possibly of Victorian-era design. It has a rounded body supported by three spherical feet, giving it a slightly elevated stance. The rim is scalloped, creating a decorative wavy edge. A twisted, ornate handle is attached to the sides with curved brackets, allowing it to be carried easily. The surface is heavily patinated with verdigris (green oxidation), indicating that it is made of a copper or brass-based alloy. Found in burnt remains of Tooan Hotel 1901.sugar, tooan -
