Demonstrates the Museum's ticketing systems and ongoing production of tickets.Block of 200 tickets - purple ink on off white paper, denomination 30c, lettered A 108801 to A 109000, headed Ballarat Tourist Tramway. On rear in purple ink are details of the Ballarat Tourist Tramway operating details, contact address and that it is operated by a volunteer organisation. The 200 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple. The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. Original block A 001 to A200 added 30/6/2004 - from archive holdings. Tickets in use as adult fare from 1/11/1975 to 31/7/1977 and as child fares from 1/7/1978 to 31/10/1985. Child single ticket for while, late 80's to 30/6/1991. Last block issued 1/1990. Ticket issue book shows that the first ticket/block? was collected for the archives - 10/9/1975. Yields information about the presentation of a set of tickets that were presented to the City of Ballarat at the time of closure of the system.Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, 22 September 1971 of tickets and passes being given to the City of Ballarat by Mr. Denmead. Shows close up photo of ESCo 1 1/2d tokens, a photograph of a presentation sheets of sample tickets dated 1906 and Mr. Denmead holding metal passes and two tokens. Notes the items as being passed to Council for safe keeping. Article notes that the tokens in the close up photo was owned by Mr. Lyle Kay of 5A Finch St. Ballarat. 1037 - Newspaper clipping from The Sun (Melbourne), April 15, 1972 in the Magazine section of the newspaper, called 'Then and Now' about the closure the following day of the Bendigo tramways. Gives an outline history of the tramway system, and two stories about the tramways, one about a driver named "Hellfire Jack" and an accident between a tram he was driving and a horse pulled dray loaded with tomatoes. Has six small photos on the top of the item, four of trams and two of Bendigo looking towards Charing Cross from the Post Office in 1880 and 1972. 1037.1 - added 23/10/2004 - duplicate cutting. Yields information about the operation of Ballarat tram No. 36 in Melbourne to promote Ballarat after the closure of the SEC system.1060 - Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, 15/9/1971 of the loading of tram 36 for running in Melbourne the previous day. Two photos (btm1060i1) shows Stan Lakey and Harry Van Oorschot jacking up the front of the tram and second photo (btm1060i2) shows Doug Wiseman and Bob Prentice on the main body jacks. Caption notes the transport of the tram to Melbourne for a week, advertising the Begonia Festival, Sovereign Hill and the Royal South St. competitions. Print from a copy negative (N13), made early 1997 for display purposes and laminated. Has six Velcro dots on rear. In bottom left hand corner has name of Photographer "Richardson, Ballarat". Black & White Photograph of one of the ESCo Toastracks being assembled in the Exhibition Buildings in Grenville St., north of the Alfred Hall in 1905. The other open Toastrack or Summer tramcar is behind this tram, with other California Combination cars on the sides. The trams have yet to be fitted with wheels or equipment, including headlights. Note the front dash panel has been painted, but no headlight opening or cut out. The print for this photograph made from a copy negative of page 454 of the Australasian, August 19, 1905 in 1993. Print includes caption (all in caps) "Summer Traffic Car: to be used in trips to and from the Gardens. It is without sides, and has reversible backs. Ballarat Electric Tram Service". See Reg.
