Bendigo Tramways has been in operation since June 1890. From that time, the citizens of Bendigo have experienced battery, steam and electric trams. Over the years Bendigo’s trams have become intrinsically entwined with the city’s identity and the community that they serve. In October 1888 the Sandhurst & Eaglehawk Tramway Company was formed. Construction of a 6.4km long tram line between Eaglehawk and the Bendigo Railway Station commenced soon afterwards. Half-hourly services using battery powered trams commenced in June 1890.
