... as U class tram 206 on 1/8/1922. It was withdrawn from... as U class tram 206 on 1/8/1922. It was withdrawn from ...Black and white photograph of Freight Car 206 at Preston Workshops. This tram began as one of 10 single truck saloon trams built by J.G. Brill & Co., USA and assembled by Duncan and Fraser, Adelaide. It entered service for the NMETL as tram number 5 on 13/10/1906. It was transferred to MMTB and renumbered as U class tram 206 on 1/8/1922. It was withdrawn from service in 1938 and was converted to a freight car. In November 1947 it was withdrawn from service as a spare freight car after a bad accident and remained in storage until March 1950 when it was scrapped.trams, tramways, freight tram, preston workshops, nmetl, tram 206 -

Black and white negative, by Wal Jack, of U206, along with 19, 38, 35, and 37. C class trams No. 19 at the end of 2 road was painted at the time for the Centenary of Brunswick and Coburg (Ray Pearson) and is the second car to carry this number. Black and White Copy Negative Photograph of U206 in Mount Alexander Road, with the NMETL brick powerhouse behind. The driver is hopping off the tram (to attend points) while the conductor is on the rear platform. Note the drop bars rather than folding gates as on other cars. The Cooling tower is not in the photo, indicating it has been demolished. The Power Station was demolished in 1925 (check). Black and white negative by Wal Jack of U206 and a C Class or N class stored at Preston Workshops. Based on image the number of the second car is number 125. Note the two cable grip cars and the bus body in the background. Rod Atkins advised 11/10/2020: "The bus body is one of the four James Motors of South Melbourne body's first fitted to the group of 12 Thornycroft "J" chassis in 1924-1925 numbered 13 to 24. Then in 1929 they were all transferred to the ADC chassis but four were retained in late thirties to early forties for possible further use. The four bodies were then fitted to the new International K6 chassis in 1943. The vehicle numbers were 19 to 308 16 to 309 24 to 311 and 18 to 312. They were finally disposed of in 1949."
