15 page document, photocopied. A collection of mine managers' reports and Albert Richardson's research re the mine known as the 'Big Deborah' on the Deborah line of reef. Contains details of the engine house, the boilers, the winding engine, reconditioning the boilers, the poppet legs, shaft details and underground equipment. The poppet legs are steel and originally from the 'Windmill Hill' mine, Sebastian. The Big Deborah had a shaft depth of 2017 feet, the No. 2 shaft was 240 feet. This photograph was probably taken at the site of McKay Creek Power Station. Excavation of this site did not commence until 1951 but road access(a narrow track) was provided in 1948 and widened in 1954. The logs would have been milled for timber at the State Electricity Commission's mill at Howman's Gap and thus provided a much needed source of timber for construction of camps and houses as there was a general of shortage of this commodity. Because of trouble with landslides in this area, a decision was made to place the machine hall of the power station underground instead of on the surface. Restricted financial resources and the repositioning of the power station retarded construction activities and it was not completed until early 1961.. Historical Records of Bendigo Mines' which outlines a project undertaken by Albert and the Historical Society to write a description of each Bendigo mine, showing location, plant, gold gained, depth of shaft etc. The objective was to publish this information in a book for 'educational and historical purpose'. The paper further describes a public meeting to outline the BHS proposal to 'preserve a gold mine with all equipment both surface and underground, a crushing battery, a windlass, a whip and a whim to be stored, as far as possible in correct position. For tourists, local residents and educational purposes this should illustrate what Bendigo workers in Bendigo foundries and Bendigo citizens generally, achieved in making this city a world-famous gold mining centre. This small park in Sunbury is bounded by Ligar, Miller, Pasley and Neill Streets on the west side of the railway line. There is limited playground equipment in the ground and a plaque acknowledging the work done by nearby resident Roger Free who took on the task as a volunteer caretaker of the park. The area was developed as a park because there is a natural underground spring running diagonally across the land from Ligar Street to Miller Street. This is one of many parks and recreational areas that have been established in Sunbury.
