William Henry Corbould was born on 4 November 1866 at Ballarat and educated at the Ballarat School of Mines. He began work as assayer and chemist at the Central Mine, Broken Hill but, from around 1891, spent several years in the United States, Europe and South Africa. Margaret Bennett was a student at Ballarat Teachers' College in 1949. She attended the Ballarat School of Mines as a full-time day student for three years, gaining her Diploma of Art in 1972. She was Drum Major of the Ballarat Ladies' Pipe Band from c1954-1955. She was also the set and costume designer for Junior Light Opera Company. A handmade tie in Mackenzie Tartan. Marley SMITH A Gundijtmara woman, Marley Smith has lived in Ballarat all of her life and has strong ties with family. Marley Smith completed the Ballarat Schoo of Mines Koori Art Course in 1995. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. The Art Collection features over 1000 works and was listed as a 'Ballarat Treasure' in 2007.This painting depicts the spirit of the Australian INdigenous education Conference held at the university in 2004.
