In partnership with Arthritis Victoria (incorporating Osteoporosis Victoria), the Western Regional Health Service conducted a seminar on musculoskeletal health for the Vietnamese community. The event was held on the 18th of March, 2003 at the Western Region Health Centre in Braybrook. Speakers included Phong Nguyen (President of the Vietnamese Community), Vicki Andrew (Aged Care and Disability Services Coordinator), and Dr Peter Wong (Rheumatologist). A Q & A session was also held with a panel of health professionals. Facilitated by Trinh Nguyen, the panel included Dr Hoang Tran (GP), Sharon Miller (Dietician), Lily Radcliff (Physiotherapist), and Jane Hawke (Physical Activities officer at Arthritis Victoria). A Vietnamese dance troupe provided entertainment during the lunch break. The day ended with a "Tai Chi for Arthritis" workshop and a strength training class. In the early 1990s, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria began to develop educational programs that would be more accessible to Culturally And Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities. From the 12th to 13th of July 2002, Arthritis Victoria (AV) held a Health Professionals and Consumers Seminar and a Health Professionals' Dinner in Robinvale (north western Victoria) as part of its Rural And Regional Education (RARE) Program. The keynote speaker was Rheumatologist, Dr Mano Thevathasan (Victorian President, Australian Rheumatology Association). On Tuesday, the 8th of April 2003, Arthritis Victoria conducted an outreach visit to the town of St Arnaud, in the Wimmera region of central west Victoria. Around 40 people attended a talk on musculoskeletal health presented by naturopath and psychologist, Phillip Blackwood, and Arthritis Victoria's Community Speaker, Bill O'Connor. On the following morning, the Healthy Bones Bus (HBB) was set up in the main street of St Arnaud. This photo depicts Bill O'Connor making his presentation. The Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV) recognised the need to make its services accessible to a broad section of the community. As a telephone counsellor for the AFV, multi-lingual volunteers such as Patricia Papadopoulos made it possible for the Foundation to offer referral and information services in languages other than English. his photo appears on page 6 of the Vol 4 No 2, Winter 1991 issue of the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria's quarterly magazine, Arthritis Update. It accompanies an article on Patricia's personal journey with arthritis, titled "Losing and Winning". The photo is captioned: "Mrs. Patricia Papadopolous, volunteer telephone counsellor, on the job." In 1989, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV), formerly the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria RAAV), released a video titled, "Fighting Arthritis". The video promotes the Foundation's Arthritis Self Help Course and its Water Exercise Program, and was available for sale or for loan by community groups. The video launch was held on the bowling green at Parliament House, Victoria, at the start of the bowling season. This photo, taken at the launch event, depicts Peter Spyker, Minister for Community Services, Victoria, with the AFV's physiotherapist, Valerie Sayce, and Joint Action Group member, Gwen St John, in an exercise demonstration. The photo appears on page 6 of the Vol 2 No 4, November 1989 issue of the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria's quaterly magazine, Arthritis Update.
