Some proposals involved replacing the Sydney Road trams with light rail, freeing up the rail reservation for a freeway, while others proposed installing the light rail on the rail reservation from Upfield to Park Street, where the line would divert to join the Royal Parade tram line. / Our collection includes documents on the community campaign to save the line from the Cain Government in 1989-90 and the Kennett Government in 1992-93. The Save the Upfield Line Campaign was set up and composed of local residents. We have a collection of their minutes and campaign materials. Used for passengers who travelled by tram or bus on railway issued tickets. Has the terms of use printed on the tickets, only available on Sundays. Issued by the MMTB. The only line that these were used on was Route 19, for the Upfield line. A similar letter would have been prepared for the Upfield line. .2 - letter dated 6/1/1993 titled "Metropolitan Rail System - Service Alterations and closures" announcing that the Minister for Public Transport, announced the closure of the Newport to Williamstown lines and the Upfield rail line, along with reduction of services on other lines and that a voluntary departure package (termination of employment) is available.
