THis typewriter is a Remington typewriter, model Standard 12 manufactured in 1925. The Remington company of New York, U.S.A., in the 19th century manufactured firearms and later typewriters. In 1873 the company produced the first commercial typewriter and introduced the QWERTY keyboard system. This 20th century business machine was used by the firm of D.H.Wood Motors of 169 Koroit Street Warrnambool. This firm advertised that it sold mainly Peugeot and Studebaker cars and Hillman and Humber cars and commercial trucks. This machine has local provenance as it came from the 20th century business of D.H.Wood Motors. It also has some historical interest as an example of a business or office machine used in the early to mid 20th century before the general use of computers. This is a grey rectangular-shaped metal box with rounded edges. The box has four metal studs on the base to keep the box stable. The box has a hinged section for the insertion of the paper dockets and a turning mechanism for removing the dockets, one at a time from a slot at the top of the machine. The dockets have a white (customer's) copy and a pink duplicate copy for the business to file. Two of the dockets have been removed from the machine to show the contents. The number of dockets in the machine is unknown. The metal surface of the machine is rubbed and rusty and the paper is stained. This chainsaw was one of the earliest models sold in Australia. It was manufactured by the Lombard company which was established in 1894 when Nathaniel Lombard developed the first practical water wheel governor in Roxbury, Massachusetts, USA. In 1904, the company moved to Ashland, Massachusetts. During the first World War, Lombard Governor produced hydraulic lathes for the manufacture of artillery shells At the conclusion of the war, Lombard expanded into the areas of chain saws and plastic molding injection machines. This model, the L-30 was only produced for 2 years from 1962 - 1964, primarily due to safety concerns and the fact that it did not have any way to sharpen or tighten the chain. This chainsaw was sold by Mann of Wodonga and donated to the Wodonga and District Historical society by David Mann, owner and manager of Mann Wodonga.This item is significant as it was produced for a limited time. It was also sold by a prominent Wodonga business.A single operator chain saw from Lombard, Ashland, Massachusetts, USA. The chainsaw was relatively lightweight but had no safety features such as a chain brake. It was made primarily of sand cast magnesium. The main cylinder was constructed of aluminium with a cast iron sleeve. It had a manual oil pump, the crankshaft operated on ball bearings and it had a maximum rpm of 4,500. J. Mann and Sons was first established as a farm produce store in 1921. The range of products was extended in the 1930s and included groceries and hardware, as well as the first petrol bowser in Wodonga outside the store. After WWII, the premises were extended and the range of products continued to increase. In the 1960s the Mann Family opened a new supermarket in Wodonga, in addition to the hardware business, providing steel, plumbing and industrial supplies, and they employed over 100 people at one stage. With changes in the retail industry, the Mann Family sold the main hardware business to Bunnings and the produce business to the Kelly brothers in 2006. The Bell Punch Company was a British company manufacturing a variety of business machines, including several generations of public transport ticket machines and the world's first desktop electronic calculator The company was founded on 5 July 1878.
