Jack Lockett was born at Waanyarra on 22 January 1891 to his single mother Mary Lockett. Waanyarra was a gold mining town west of Bendigo but was later abandoned as the gold mining decreased. Jack Lockett grew up on his grandfather's property and later his stepfather's before he left home to work at age thirteen. He survived World War 1 and then went farming with his uncles and later bought land at Linga. Doll Ingwersen was born at Scoresby on 5th July 1897.
