Demonstrates the early publicity about the formation of the BTPS in Ballarat to retain Ballarat heritage and its publicity in a major national magazine.Centre page spread pages (unfortunately torn in two) from the January 1972 issue of Walkabout magazine, pages 54 and 55, titled "In Bendigo and Ballarat History is alive and well". This magazine issue contains an article on the Sydney Opera House titled "Can You Cost a Dream?" by Eva M. Buhrich, pictures by Max Dupain. p24-27. Robin Boyd’s desk cupboard contained two exercise books (item D482.1-D482.2) and assorted articles, essays and other material regarding the building of the Sydney Opera House, inserted inside the front cover of this Walkabout magazine. It was built for Gwendoline Pitman after the death of her father Clarence Pitman and the disappearance of her sister Olive in July 1926. Gwendoline operated an artist and souvenir shop in the newly built Log Cabin in partnership with Peter Mackey who was a Melbourne optician and artist. Rutherglen had a regular event called Back to Rutherglen where by a committee was formed to organise Sporting events usually during Easter. The purpose was a means of raising money for various projects in the town, such as building the Soldiers Memorial Hall and in later years a Queen Competition was held to raise funds towards building the Swimming Pool.
