Xavier College – Kew (Vic.) ...Various PartiesReference, Research, InformationArranged by Secondary Values (value of records to users)Waverley was the name of the original house that is now Burke Hall, a part of Xavier College. The original building passed hands as early as 1869, being modified by different owners over the decades into a more recognisable shape. The house hosted consuls from Peru and Austria-Hungary, before being converted into a home for nurses. It was sold to Archbishop Daniel Mannix in 1920, who then offered it to Xavier College as a preparatory school and has remained in the ownership of the college since. It has remained true to its purpose as an ‘Early Learning Centre’ since 1921. The file includes: Photos of previous residents and owners, a document regarding the history of the building, and a document advertising a scholarship named after the Austrian-Hungarian consul whose wife had originally bought the house.waverley – kew (vic.), burke hall – kew (vic.), xavier college – kew (vic.)waverley – kew (vic.), burke hall – kew (vic.), xavier college – kew (vic.) -
